Great spot for some low rise apartments. Used to live across the street, that area is so prime for more projects like this.

    General Construction Updates

Didn't they just do a reno on the retail at scotia place? I'm liking the rendering though, hopefully it comes to fruition.

    General Construction Updates

I don't mind Richard White's articles. He offers a perspective that is usually different than my own. It's good to hear different perspectives when informing your own ideas. That being said I think Retro is bang on, urbanism is about nuance and subtlety.

What part of Calgary would you rezone for higher density?

Oh man, great question. Everything north of Heritage, East of 45th St. SW, south of john laurie, and west of 36 St. SE would go to Mc-2 as a minimum. Then everything on; the calgary mainstreets, withing 600m of c-train stations, and anything in the beltine, DT, mission, bankview, sunalta...

    Calgary Stadiums and Arenas

Just took a lunchtime flip through the proposal. Few thoughts: 1. Ski jumping in Whistler: Makes sense but is a little disappointing the towers at winsport won't get some love. Also, selfishly I really want to see the ski jumping and now likely won't. 2. McMahon reno: This part seems like a...

    General Construction Updates

I've always thought that connecting 7th st. from downtown to the beltline would be the best option for this. The areas on both sides of the tracks are a bit quieter and make great walking and biking roads already.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Whoa - that would be huge. Having a large national retailer make a home in Calgary would be akin to when CP moved out of the East. Fingers crossed, we could use some more diversity in our corporate landscape.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Yeah agreed, given the place is somewhat subsidized they should use it as an opportunity to be unique. Something for visitors to the city to experience.

Nooo, man that initial plan looks so good. Pretty key parcel for the neighbourhood, they've really got to nail it.

Before Melbourne Vancouver was the most livable city from 2004-2010.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I think we are getting there. Few things to note on this front. National Music Centre: what a great site, it's a local architecture marvel and the rebirth of the King Eddy adds a cool aspect. That being said, they need to figure out what they want that place to be: performing space, training...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Yeah saw that in the news this morning. Pretty crazy that Calgary is number 4. I love it here so it's a bit of validation of what we all know. Interesting that Vancouver keeps dropping, wasn't long ago they were #1 for 4 or 5 years in a row. Just shows that other cities are constantly making...

    Infill Development Discussion

yeah 10ft is a good benchmark, that leaves room for a staircase, flowerbed or patio but still frames the street.
