We're seeing some movement on this. Excavator was on site yesterday.

Just close off 6th ave to cars and lay some turf. Heck, I've got some Canadian Tire gift cards and my buddy has a truck. We could get it done in a weekend.

Kudos to City Council for finally listening to wealthy senior citizens. The poor and young have had it too good for too long.

You could put a 100ft mural of me getting punched in the face by my ex wife's new boyfriend on the front of the building and I'd still take it over a downtown parking lot.

Ah, I'm an idiot that didn't look at the schematics properly. Thanks for setting me straight.

Ah, more surface parking. Yes please. We haven't given up enough of the riverfront to cars yet. One day I hope we can just pave over the whole river and turn it into a highway.

It's a shame it's taken so long for them to do this. Why evict the dozens living here if they were going to wait so long? Not to mention the eye sore of the fencing on this highly trafficked road.

Ok challenge to the Skyrise Calgary community. What buildings in Calgary have the largest signs? Is it just me, or does the Enzo sign seem uniquely large?

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Calgary oil and gas companies are going to feel these tariffs hard. No more monthly golf "charity" events.

    Broadway on 17th | 154m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

Damn, whoever is in charge of activating this empty lot should run for mayor. If you're ever wondering why parts of downtown feel so soulless and horrible, it really just boils down to too many empty lots (including parking lots).

They just announced the tenants actually. It's going to be: - Shawarma place that changes owners every 5 months - Luxury Salon that exclusively serves customers who live south of Prospect Ave - Vape store with student specials - Second Shawarma place

Eh, we could go a bit higher, imho, but reasonable people can disagree. While by no means conclusive, research suggests we feel most comfortable walking on streets with a 1:3 width to height ratio. Width including the full right of way, sidewalks and streets, compared to the height of the...

The hookah lounges would throw a fit if their customers had to walk more than 15 m from their uber to walk in.

Oh for sure, and I'm not attempting to claim that having more public spaces would eliminate it entirely. Obviously a lot of other factors contributing to it, opioid crisis, housing costs, inadequate healthcare access, etc etc. But a sure way to make the problem worse is discouraging people who...

I tend to believe that misanthropy like this actually contributes to the degradation of the public realm. When we hold our eachother in such low regard, the well-off recede into their walled gardens. "Enter the public realm? Nay! That is full of piss and shit and the dreaded poor people" So...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Yeah this is just the death rattle of a generation unwilling to accept their time has passed. The heyday of car dependency is in the rear view mirror.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

The issue is that changing signs has little impact on the speed that people actually drive. If we actually want to lower speeds you have to do more than change a 4 to a 3, you have to narrow roads and actually enforce the speed limit.

The jaywalking excuse is classic victim blaming. Why does Calgary have a higher rate of pedestrian incidents than Toronto? Are Calgary residents just poorly behaved? No, of course not. It's because downtown has been built to serve the interests of suburban commuters at the expense of inner city...
