I love the use of the patterned tile as well as it adds a nice design element. I always wondered why Calgary been slow to embrace patterned flooring in outdoor public spaces. It seems easy enough but maybe because of cost restraints in installation and repair work?

Do they have an architect chosen? Sounds like Dialog only did the architectural concept designs.

It's great to hear progress on the project. Crazy to think that 3 art projects are likely going to be happen at around the same time: Arts Commons, Glenbow, and Contemporary Calgary. All of which are long overdue.

I also like how 10th Avenue is becoming the new entertainment street because of it's proximity to downtown. It will be nice for 17th Ave to be the high street, while 10th becomes the entertainment street.

Isn't 2nd Street SW getting a bike lane?

Just wondering, but is there a reason to orient the development diagonally? Is it intended to reduce traffic speed within? I feel like it leaves a lot on unusable blocks and as a pedestrian, I always found it easier walking within a grid block. Curious what the benefits are.

I agree that it's pretty underwhelming. However, some upgrades to just the street level will do wonders to extend the vibrancy of Stephen Avenue one additional block. Walking by the building, you wouldn't even know this was Calgary's premier museum.

I think in this case, Chinatown's concerns are legitimate, especially about loading on 3rd avenue given they don't have traditional back alleys. The loss of street parking has always been an issue with Chinatown and it doesn't sound like there will be any replacement spots unlike the bike track...

Does anyone else agree that Telus Sky is a lot more aesthetically pleasing than Vancouver House? I always thought they were the ying and yangs to each other because of the inverted shape and colours. But I'm really happy that we got Telus Sky because I feel like the narrow top and the morphing...

That's great news! The addition of this building to 4th street and 12th avenue. This new tower will fill up a nice hole in the cityscape fabric.

Also, I would assume that the technology has changed in the last 10 years between Arriva and Jamieson's LED's vs Telus Sky?

But developers are doing exactly this. They are value engineering their projects and using cheaper materials to increase profits at the expense of the public realm. I don't think the city's policies were perfect and in fact, a bit misguided, which gave rise to the Stampitecture style. However...

I always remembered how infamous this building was back on SSP. If I remember correctly, the renderings of that old shard design was leaked on the site and the developer specifically asked for them to be removed. It was just funny remembering how everyone kept alluding to it, but was forbidden...

Isn't the 7th avenue transit corridor already full with just the red and blue line? Imagine adding the green line through it as well. We would just be delaying the inevitable, which is a tunnel through downtown.

Oh, the article mentioned that the Glenbow is hoping to raise a total budget of $115M for the entire project. Sounds like a healthy budget for a retrofit of the existing building. Just a little worried considering Contemporary Calgary and Art Commons are both still waiting on their matching...

Quite fitting that Deville is going in the lobby as I remember that the old Art Central was the original Deville location
