The other thing to add is that a good portion of inner city residential areas not coloured orange that you see on that map are still zoned for low density, semi-detatched R-2 and R-C2. This is not that big of an improvement over single family zoning, especially with how small households are...
Not wrong at all- they're native to northern Alberta but have been spreading throughout the province the last few decades according to the articles I've read. Hopefully they don't impact trout fisheries.
Crawfish are definitely not native to the Bow River watershed and should be reported to the provincial government alongside where you found them. They are very invasive and it's concerning you found as many as you did in the Elbow.
On the other hand, gumbo anyone?
As I recall, the city holds title to all of the Stampede land and leases the portion of land, from roughly south of 14th ave to the Elbow, to the Stampede. The lands north of 14th, including Olympic Way, are also owned by the city.
These are my concerns that stick out after a month reflecting on this project.
In no particular order:
More office space??
The risk of the heritage buildings getting torn down and the project stalling out like with what happened with the Bow South Block
Zero care for restoring heritage...
I'm definitely a little worried. If the rain forecasted for alpine locations in the Bow and Elbow watershed happens we could be in trouble. I think the 2013 floods had around 200mm in Canmore and surrounding areas over two days and we are not too far off from that.
It would easily take the crown as having the most oppressive massing in the city on what is currently the most human scale street in the CBD (unless you count surface lots as human scale)
This might interest you: https://rivers.alberta.ca/ I use it to track river flows for fly fishing but it also reports the amount of precipitation weather stations across the province have received.
The sidewalk narrows because of a bus lay-by. It could be widened without impacting the lrt.
The facade of the Norman Block is original apart from the frieze. The interior of a heritage building having been renovated at various points shouldn't justify demolishing it.
It is also a great way to...
They ended up auctioning off a bunch of architectural elements from demolished buildings a couple of years ago because they didn't know what to do with them. That's Calgary's heritage preservation for you
I hope this dies as well prior to any demolition going forward. The Bow South Block should be front and center on everyone's minds. I'm pretty sure the city is still eating the cost of storing the York Hotel facade in their Manchester storage facility
