    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Housing is so hyper-local that the Feds should have exactly zero involvement and provide zero funding

The cartels don't negotiate trade. Mexico has a sitting Parliament with an elected leader who has the legitimacy to negotiate.

That is irrelevant. Congress can pass subsequent legislation to reverse this.

He is ignoring Mexico as it has a functional government and isn't an avatar for woke. Canada is the easiest of targets. Most of this likely wouldn't have happened if Canada had held an election last year with a majority.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

I was thinking along the lines of drastically reducing the requirements and therefore the required work and resources. Do more rigorous approval processes actually lead to more predictable outcomes? My guess is "no". Do more rigorous approval processes lead to fewer political considerations? My...

Sure and the easy, but unlikely fix, would be for the Feds to reduce income taxes and the Provinces to increase income taxes and the municipalities to increase property taxes

Why blur accountability even more? Municipalities mostly provide local services, so why involve the Federal government which should focus on non-local issues like defence, trade and border security?

Trump may act like he has all the power, but he doesn't. He can't extend or end term limits as that would require approval of 75% of the states - never going to happen. US politics is a perpetual campaign. Several GOP Congressional seats will be at risk if the tariffs carry on more than a few...

Any combination of higher interest rates or higher prices will indisputably be real. Americans generally react very badly to anything that interferes with consumption. Money in US politics more or less cancels out. For every dollar of pro-Trump PAC spending, there is a dollar of of anti-Trump.

Until it isn't. Most of Congress wants to be re-elected. Trump can't run again and no one else can have the cult of personality to pick up the MAGA torch. Once enough Congressman fear they will lose their seats due to increased prices, they will distance themselves from Trump. Americans tend to...

Congress will eventually overturn most if not all of Trump's EO's. It is likely waiting for Trump's approval rating to sink, which will happen soon. Nothing turns Americans against their government more than increased prices.
