    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I definitely prefer option 1, having the patio overlooking 17th ave, adds to the street vibe. I don't care for the street parking, but I can live with it. I'm happy to see Certus is behind it, they have a proven track record.

And a bummer that it will block downtown's view of this tower. This is probably my favorite residential tower in the city. BTW, I drove through Bridgeland and down 9th yesterday. I'm blown away by how different Bridgeland feels with these buildings!

It’s not really fair to compare those cities to Calgary though. Asia is a different market, and those cities have super cheap labour. London isn’t super cheap but is a global tourist hub. The economics of building a new tower wouldn’t make sense in Calgary.

    Covid-19

It's been a while since we've discussed Covid. The 2nd wave (or third in some cases) is happening. Any predictions and how it goes for Calgary, Alberta and Canada. or other parts of the world?

    Totally agree.

    Fixing Calgary's Business District

Not a write off, but close. It's a difficult task to turn it around because of the impact of past mistakes, but not impossible. If the city gets serious and creative, there is hope, and maybe someday Calgary will be used as a model on how to reinvent a CBD. Calgary's biggest issue is the amount...

    Fixing Calgary's Business District

I don’t want to sound negative but I almost feel like the CBD is a write off. Even if the towers fill back up it’s still mostly an office park on steroids. Years of soul sucking office building street frontages have almost ruined it for good. The only hope IMO is to get more residents in the...

I used to go to that 5 Guys about once a month. It wasn’t the cheapest place, but it was good. It was a downer when they closed.

But that would be thinking outside the box. Something Calgarians often struggle with.

Love the location. I’d like to see more renderings if there any around.

The unit in the photo above is probably not much larger than 200 sq ft maybe 350 sq ft as it looks to have a room off to the left also, but with those large windows the unit will feel roomy for its size.

I must be missing something. I don't see any cladding yet.

What brought you to this site?

I thought everyone here was from SSP, but it seems quite a few (about half) are from other sources.

What brought you to this site?

I'm curious how people came to to this site. Many of us are from SSP originally, but maybe some of the other newer members found this site some other way. For me I was along time SSP member.

I'm not an expert, but I would say it is. The type of drill in the pic (caisson driller) is different than the types used for testing.
