    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Another city and province getting bullied into building a new stadium. And it just happens to coincide with the ownership group looking to sell and the Whitecaps among the 3 lowest valued team in the MLS. Guarantee the new owners will threaten to leave to force a new stadium. It's nice to see...

Doesn't that chart show we're building more per 1000 people than 10 years ago? So we are building more after accounting for population change. If we hold population steady, our pace of building has really increased. Comparisons to the post-war periods aren't really useful. The Yonge street...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Are season tickets worth it? Obviously it's different for everyone but I frequently see below face value tickets on sale. Unless it's solely as an investment for when they move to Scotia Place

Thanks, I didn't realize all the population were CMA level. Toronto is definitely a swing between extremely high density and single family homes. Really evident the massive drop off around major transit stations like Eglinton.

Yes, same with how Crowchild has a plan to freeway between Kensington and 24th. But most likely after a big project, they'll move to do something else. Like how when they're mostly done Stoney, then started Deerfoot.

I'd like to see this chart control for population. We might be building at the same pace as Hong Kong/Taiwan/SK, but they're literally losing population. Same with "Developed Europe" (that's an interesting way to phrase Western Europe lol), where they're mostly losing or growing very slowly...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

"McLean says he’d like the Eighth Avenue bike lane taken out, and wants to see others – including the thoroughfare on 12 Avenue – reviewed." Buddy, this is your ward. How about you get out a shovel and pave impeccable roads in your ward before worrying about downtown traffic. There's literally...

After this current improvement is done, Deerfoot probably won't see much for a few years. With Stoney and Deerfoot being complete, I guess the province will have to start putting money into the Green Line construction.

I think it'll pass. The CBC site unanimously. There's councilors that complain of spending and taxes, but really not that many that oppose development.

For the Toronto figure, is it based solely on the city of Toronto? Sometimes these comparisons aren't apples to apples because what a "city" includes is different. Calgary has dowtown, suburbs all in one. Whereas Toronto, Peel/York/Durham is really part of the same region. Their density will...

    Stampede Station | 277.3m | 70s | Truman | NORR

There's a Frontier thread, feel free to move the post and my response. The units for rent are rental guarantee units, essentially the owners took Truman up on the rental guarantee offer, so Truman pays the owner the guarantee amount for probably 2 years, and tries to rent it out to recover...

    West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

Westside isn't private in the same way Glencoe and Calgary Winter Club is. It's priced similarly to a Y membership or MNP. Almost all facilities in the city are privately operated except 2, Village Square and Southland. Definitely very different model than Toronto or Vancouver that have far more...

So they mean 70km of lanes? So a 4 lane section of Deerfoot both ways would translate to 8.75km of actual distance? I really don't think they're only going to resurface only a tiny portion of Deerfoot

Seems like they moved downtown? Not sure if this is the same "SMART"

There's plenty of bones to pick with this government that resurfacing Deerfoot probably isn't some evil plan for the municipal election. It makes no sense to resurface when there's still lane expansion work, bridge work, on/off ramp work, and work building/fixing medians. If they resurface now...

I agree Vancouver is more dense, I just think that feeling of it being closer to Toronto than Calgary is to Vancouver, isn't necessarily accurate. I grew up near the Kerrisdale neighborhood in Vancouver, and now live near Kensington, and it feels pretty similar.

They say 70km of lanes will be resurfaced, I'm assuming they're not counting individual lanes? but rather both sides, so divide that by 2 you get 35km. Mckenzie Towne to Airport Trail is about 32km. If they count some on/off ramps, should still be a decent portion they'll resurface. Likely just...

    Calgary International Airport

AC also has free wifi and better availability. WJ currently on all 737-800, started on some Max 8, and it won't come to 737-700. Westjet also has a lot of variability to their fleet. You may get a nice modern plane, or a former Lynx/Sunwing plane with tighter seating.

Part of that is when people visit a city, they stay near population centres, downtown, attractions. Whereas in their home city, they may be in a suburb or doing more day to day activities (groceries, gym, etc.). Density is definitely higher downtown (no unused parking lots), but for someone...
