    Alberta Provincial Politics

The UCP gov't is going to waste a lot of money on moronic and hateful stuff. I prefer when they spend their energy on moronic stuff over the hateful [and moronic] stuff, so I guess this is a win?

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Effing bollards are so annoying. Snow clearing on pathway connections all over the city is terrible because of these worthless pieces of metal.

I effing hate this logic in residential areas. I would say this is a stretch where the limit sign is unlikely to influence behaviour much, but who cares. When it does slow people down, that also slows down the people behind them. Of we could just try some enforcement FFS. This stretch is also a...

    Glenmore Landing | 115m | 35s | RioCan | NORR

UD has like 50 acres of pretty much blank slate to play with. GL is more like 14 acres of very not blank slate.

    Calgary Transit

It would be tough to do with the green light timing, but ideally 6th and 9th would run opposite of current traffic flow so [de]boarding happens on the better side of the road.

The rankings are neat, but it would be nicer to see the actual numbers...some of these must be pretty close

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

To be clear, they changed the unsigned speed limit from 50 to 40. And then slapped 50 signs up on any collector roads that weren't already signed that way. Minimal real world results. Technically you could drive 50 kph by any house in the city not in a playground zone. Now its 40. But there's...

    Calgary Municipal Politics

I think she is unfairly maligned most of the time, but I wish she would step aside and hopefully open a path for a fresh progressive-moderate. The ground is fertile for an 'outsider'. Or even a blast from the past like Greg Clark or Evan Woolley...who knows if they'd be interested though.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

The worst part is that the 'benefit' side of the equation from travelling faster in pedestrianized areas is so damn weak in terms of overall travel time. Probably +/- one light cycle on most trips. And of course there are several other costs to increased speed (noise, local pollution, etc)

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

I think the most practical solution would be to put big steel bollards to delineate every single lane at each intersection. It's such a brilliant and effective solution to ensure cyclists don't huck their meat bags into intersections that shirley it would scale to vehicles!

I didn't catch a few of the points in the first three paragraphs, but they really started to sink in with the next three paragraphs

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I think the play is a tourist attraction that offers some utility. I don't think Calgary really has an ideal location for that, though. Edmonton had a decent proposal but couldn't get it off the ground. One spot that might be interesting is the airport to Nose Creek. Probably a bunch of...

Here's a few random gondola ideas I had a while back: https://skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/calgary-transit-fantasy-maps.27981/post-1813793 I think some combo of Foothills, ACH/University District, and maybe U of C centre campus or Market Mall makes a lot of sense. They all have steady...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It's a fantastical idea (though it shouldn't be), but the condition for public funding on the arena should have been an ownership stake for the Stampede (a not-for-profit org that is essentially arms length from all orders of gov't). And CSEC could have a seat on the Stampede Board. CSEC and...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

That's a dangerous game - I think the UCP would be delighted to drag this out for another 2-3 years so the "Nenshi Nightmare" (cringe) will still be fresh for the next prov. election. And who knows what the composition of the next YYCCC will be like.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Online topo map shows the west edge of this is about 7 meters higher than the east edge. There's also a bit of grade from the back lane down to 26th. Interestingly, the '3.05m walkway' between the duplex and western edge of this property appears to be an easement walkway...you might figure it...

    Calgary Public Realm Catalogue

I wanted to take my boy for a treat at Glamorgan Bakery today, and it was a nightmare to get there on a bike. We had to navigate this gem of a sidewalk situation on the way out: Just reflecting on the process to get there - we were about 350 meters due east as the crow flies from the...
