Pro Olympics side of it, makes a lot of sense to me. Revamp of most large scale sporting facilities in city plus stadium with 10k more seats, new fieldhouse, 80% of athletes village will be affordable housing units after the games. I think the City has a very high probability of winning if they...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Oh wow, so it is planned for East Vic Park then. CMLC is working on public realm for entire area as well as further west in Victoria Park, def fast track things assuming at least 3,000 out of 4,600 units are built in Calgary. Would love to see Beltline's population figures in ~10 years.

Olympic summary below, where exactly in EV would thes units/athletes village in EV be going? I’m assuming the remaining land owned by CMLC. Maybe East Victoria Park? Would tie in well with a new arena...

    General Construction Updates

Yes, I like the uptick in midrise too in places like Mission, Kensington, Bridgeland, Ingelewood, Marda Loop etc. Families/older people are more drawn to this product as well and it's a good way to add density to many commercial areas outside of City Centre. Most people in the general...

    General Construction Updates

Some good points, but I'm not sure what else you can do to attract families to Downtown/Beltline besides focusing on safety, playgrounds/parkspaces, and similar amenities which the city is doing quite well in. Most parents would choose not to live in a highrise, me included. In Van/TO families...

    General Construction Updates

Yes, absolutely. I'd say $400 - $500 per buildable sf is becoming more the norm for downtown and prime commercial/residential strips within Vancouver proper. I've even seen over $1,000 per buildable sf, but i'll give the developers benefit of the doubt that they have a very high probability of...

    General Construction Updates

A lot! Our City Centre population was about 44k last census, what's u/c should push us beyond 50k in a few yrs, not to mention other proposed projects. Also, think that Mission/Lower Mount Royal, Cliff Bungalow should be considered part of City Centre (another 12k) as these neighborhoods are...

    General Construction Updates

Could be Toronto developers too. There's always land left, especially when you consider redevelopment sites. Problem is developers are taking on an increasingly large risk acquiring $300+ per buildable sf sites, especially with the potential of multi-year permit delays esp in Vancouver. On the...

    General Construction Updates

Exterior work on the National Block looks really good, gives me some confidence in Arlington's future projects along 17th ave. Speaking of 17th ave, Matrix 19 and Nest's sales centres look to be open along 17th ave east of centre street, and the Fifth sales centre looks to open as well along...

I've read somewhere Calgary's share of cost would be around $500M. If that includes new arena I'd say go for it. Cgy will also benefit from upgrades to various sporting facilities, affordable housing, infrastructure, and more global recognition.

    General Construction Updates

Yes, you don't have to convince me. The economy could be a lot better. I'm just surprised at last yr's gdp growth plus projected growth as well as the census results. If Calgary can maintain this level of urban development with oil down/NDP, imagine when large private investments start flowing...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I agree, the name does not live up to the original at all. Those buildings above are disappointing too, but there are some good aspects of the development. Fairly dense, with multiple uses. I prefer properties like this, Trinity Hills, West Campus get developed within existing development...

Greenwich - named after the Greenwich neighborhood in NYC. Good luck matching that, although I do appreciate their effort in bringing brownstones/mixed-use/walkability to that area of the city.

^Wasn't stated here before, researched the acquisition on RealNet and forgot to post it. Actually, AIMCo/Cidex purchased the lot on the other side in the Beltline (10th ave) as well around the same time. I'd say these are challenging sites due to rail tracks/9th ave, but the site is actually...

    General Construction Updates

Not sure where else to post this. From the Conference Board of Canada Spring 2018 Calgary Outllook. Calgary seems to have weathered the storm with solid GDP growth last yr and number one Metro for foretasted growth. Looks like our metro population is expected to top 1.5M this year. Permits...
