    Taza (Tsuut'ina Nation Development) | ?m | ?s | Canderel

99 year lease. But also lower property taxes. Will the city do garbage collection, and regular access to Enmax/etc? What about police/fire?

    Calgary Retail Thread

I kinda hate most things about Canadian Tire...but it's also kinda my favourite store to visit (and I basically hate doing shopping in person). I feel like there could be some kind of fit under their umbrella with Sport Chek, Marks, etc. Would be nice for some of the Canadian identity things...

No curb ramp at the little known corner of 7th Ave and 1st St SW. And a train had to wait for at least 30 seconds at these lights for no apparent reason at 11am on a Saturday. I'm a little surprised, but not shocked that these lowest of hanging fruit have not been fixed yet.

I don't know if its enough of a bottleneck in the building process, but it could probably save a decent chunk of time and money if enough prefab elements can become more ubiquitous...and perhaps they could integrate even more items like electrical/plumbing into each prefab piece? Or ability to...

It's amazing how much prime land there is near MRU. Currie is filling in very nicely. The area is pretty well served with just about everything you need nearby in either Marda Loop, Glamorgan, or Lakeview (and some nifty niche stuff within Currie or the Lincoln Park strip mall). The one thing...

Cowboys Park Update: https://livewirecalgary.com/2025/03/04/cowboys-park-plans-unveiled-by-the-city-of-calgary/ The polka dots and bushes should really tie the room together.

Could it make sense to also include proximity to city centre as another input in the frontage tax? I can see pros/cons to it, but I think its another factor to smooth things out. Frontage/lot size alone don't necessarily scale to the roads/utilities in curvilinear neighbourhoods.

    Arts Commons | 18m | 4s | City of Calgary | KPMB

It would take a lot more time and careful planning, but the Cowboys Park paving could have facilitated ice rink(s) among other things. The park already has basketball, beach volleyball, skate park, and bouldering...it should just be a multi-sport area that can accommodate some special events...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Recreation stuff definitely seems like it should be the highest yield for engagement I can see some merits to this site in the sense that its pretty well contained by hostile barriers, but there will be plenty of social disorder that spills out. It would be interesting to know the hard costs...

I'm curious about the timelines here...seems like both could be under construction for a couple years. It's concerning that the design will be based around a 30000 sq ft footprint for the tent. Seems like suspiciously little info on this for what is presumably a major change before this July...

The article implies the city, though I'm sure they'd argue it comes out of the sponsorship. But looking back to that announcement there was no dollar figure announced. Only thing I could find related to dollars was this...

    Calgary Transit

Yup, System Map from 2023 is the latest thing you can get from the Calgary Transit site 🙄 It's really more about Route #1, which I believe still runs along with Max purple in the east

    Calgary Transit

I suspect the idea is probably about upgrading the 305 to MAX status at some point It will be interesting to see what bus prioritization looks like for this route. Kensington Rd has already been put on a bit of a road diet, but they've smartly used temporary bollards/planters, which can be...

    West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

Is the likely plan to run down the middle of 17th, or stay on the south side? Given the topography and storm basins I think you'd probably go elevated to make the corner at 17th&85th In the loooooong term, I think a big question would be the Burnco gravel pits. There's about 250 hectares to...

Speak of the devil...I think we just got the google maps update in the last few days! West Ring Road is now current instead of just dirt (pretty sure it had been an image from '22 or '23 until very recently). I think the google maps for this area in the south must be ~June 2024, as all the...

    West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

That's super slow with a bunch of speed bumps...a pretty uncomfortable ride, and would wear out brakes pretty fast. Not sure it would even save any time compared to Stoney...Google Maps puts them within a minute of each other

    Calgary Transit

I don't know enough about the area (we could really use a google maps satellite update!), but would a single station at 194th make more sense? The active only link across the slough/Macleod suggested here would be much nicer, but this seems a classic case of letting low priority 'city building'...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I gotta disagree with the bolded - admin is the only constant through this whole saga, including several of the most senior folks. Carra, Demong, and noted rapist Sean Chu are the only councillors who did all three terms (and all three voted in favour of these latest motions) . A bunch of...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I've always been fairly neutral on Gondek, but I've been happy to defend her against an absurd campaign of bad faith criticism. But she has finally lost me. https://livewirecalgary.com/2025/01/30/mayor-says-calgary-taxpayers-likely-to-carry-the-burden-of-green-line-cost-overruns/ Now my legal...
