    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Anecdotally, I stopped using the bike storage in my building in the beltline. I always had a habit of making my bike the most difficult to steal but thefts became a weekly thing and I just brought it up to my unit.

This older apartment building is undergoing some exterior renovations 411 14 ST NW https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2024-03544 Looks to be adding some CRUs and some landscaping. I wonder if the entire building is getting an exterior refresh? It has definitely seen better days.

From what I can tell, they are removing parts of the old foundation so that they can begin shoring. Similar to what happened across the street after the building on 12th and 4th was taken down.

Caesars included? If so, that's a shame as its definitely a classic Calgary institution. Restaurant interiors aren't built like that anymore.

Nice, Calgary was missing a Kenny Rogers Roaster

Splash park is no more, it was replaced with some other type of playground for "all ages". I really wish that they would at least open up the path from the Sheraton to the Jaipur bridge, but that's a no for cited safety concerns. I have a hard time believing that they aren't able to open up...

Cool to see an all steel constructed highrise downtown. I'm sure there are others but off the top of my head its just the Bow and Elevden Centre.

I'm probably in the minority here but I don't hate it. It's sure better than the current form of beige box. To me it looks like they're trying to tie the design of the +15 in to the building. Side note, is this the first residential conversion with a +15 connection? It's a pretty key piece...

How is this still not done? It's been what, 2 years? For a big concrete plaza.

You can get an idea from the roof shape on the satellite image. Langs is 833 and you can see the grocery "appendage" around the original home structure. It looks similar to what was torn down (825). Reminds me of those original homes in Chinatown are is almost completely hidden by the...

I haven't seen this before but it looks like GWL will be adding some LEDs to the outside of Gulf Canada Center. They are undergoing a major lobby renovation right now, so this must align with that.

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

Curryer on 5th has closed citing higher costs (I think that's a shot at the land lord). That's too bad because I quite liked their food, it was far less oily and salty than Mirchi if you're looking for Pakistani fare. Tough location to make a go of it.

    Northland Village Redevelopment | 19m | 6s | DIALOG

Never really thought much about it but they really go the way of their anchor tenant. North Hill mall (Sears died a slow death), Deerfoot (Woolworths) pivoted to Walmart, market mall (The Bay/Safeway/Zellers/Theater), North Land (I don't remember what it was before Walmart). It makes sense...

Quick, everyone take a walk down 4th street the sidewalks are now open. I've lived/worked in the area for 15 years and I can only think of one other time when it was possible to walk from DT to Elbow, so take your chance now before the Truman site begins and inevitably closes the sidewalks on...

Site is fenced off with Truman signs and seems to be no longer used as a Park Central's laydown yard/parking.
