Really excited and proud to share that we presented this project last week at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam and it won World Future Office Building of the Year!

Hey guys, thought I'd give a bit of an update. This project just received approval from Nav Canada and the YYC Airport Authority. Next step is applying for the Development Permit which will happen early next week!

    @UrbanWarrior much appreciated!!

Hey everyone, loving the dialog on this thread! I've always seen value in architecture that generates discussion and stirs debate. Nothing worse than architectural apathy. As Alex_yyc mentioned, we're a finalist for the Architizer A+ Awards and we just found out that this project is also a...

And here are a couple more examples of great skylit atria around the world: Olympic House in Lausanne Museum of Liverpool ;-)

Unfortunately, this project is currently on hold. But we're hopeful that it will resume once the economy picks up!

The owners of this project also own the Nash across the street. They had a stockpile of bricks left over from that project that we were able to use on this building.

Thanks for all the kind words! Was on site yesterday and snapped a few pics. It's really close to being completed now! The build quality and masonry work is really top notch.

    GROW | ?m | 3s | RNDSQR | MoDA

RNDSQR is building this one themselves. We've detailed the planters such that they are independent from the roof membrane. And they are protected on the bottom so that no one with an overly aggressive pitchfork will compromise the waterproofing!

I agree! We try to incorporate soft landscaping wherever possible. The brick walls are indeed planters and will have shrubbery in them. Part of what drove the height of them (and the height of the main floor) is the elevation of the parkade below, which stretches to the property line on all four...

Hey guys, it's great to see all the comments (both positive and not so positive, lol) on this project. We welcome all feedback of any type and while it may be a polarizing building at the end of the day, we'd rather make architecture that starts lively conversations and spurs debate rather than...

Hey guys, The sides and rear will be a black vertical metal panel and the front will be cedar that will be allowed to age and grey naturally.

Wait, there's a hotel going in here now? That would be an interesting change of heart on Grosvenor's part as we were told that our scheme was ultimately NOT chosen because we had proposed converting the existing office building into a hotel. Grosvenor basically said a hotel would be too risky a...

Zinc would have been amazing, but as Mountain Man said, it's cost prohibitive. These private developments are always budget-challenged. It's a wonder we even got to do cedar!

Here's a quick updated pic showing the steel plate shrouding being installed around the windows and balconies that will tie the 'mega-dormers' together. It's a subtle but important tectonic detail!

    The Livery | 10.36m | 2s | MoDA

Hey guys, this is going to be the new home of the Livery. They'll be moving out of the barn across the street. They'll occupy the main floor, with offices on the second. The owner of the building is the same owner as the National hotel and they have a non-compete with their tenant there (The...

Not sure who the current architect is, but this is an early concept MoDA did for this same site a few years back. We're sad that this one didn't get to progress any further! I guess given the current economy and surplus of commercial space drove the developer to consider residential.

    SWITCH|bloc | ?m | 4s | PLOT. | MoDA

It's 19 units total. The OSB you're seeing around the black cladding and balconies is the templating for the thin steel ribbon or shadow box that will form the 'mega-dormers'.

Construction is progressing nicely. Piles are in. Main floor parkade walls and columns have been poured. Just dealing with some site de-watering but everything is on schedule!

Hi everyone. This project is still creeping forward. It's in the pricing stage right now and we're still hopeful for a fall construction start! And the good news is, at this point nothing about the design has been value engineered so what you see is what you'll get.
