    Calgary & Alberta Economy

I would assume that the plant would buy from suppliers with existing quota, so really shouldn't matter. Supply Management in general is bad for Canada as it inflates prices, stifles innovation and creates political inertia.

Probably aggressively filling the Oldman, St Mary's and Waterton Reservoirs so not much coming from the Oldman.

That may reduce rental pressure in ON, but will it do much to housing prices? Also need to consider the hydrostatic pressure from mortgage rate increases. The full impact won't be realized until 2027 when all of the 5 year terms locked in before the tightening cycle will have been renewed at...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

How? Event Center traffic will be mostly off-peak so more people into dt wouldn't be a problem. I could see not wanting a direct entrance into the Event Center to avoid security issues

    Water main break discussion

Calgary is unusual in being located at the top of a watershed. The only other NA cities that I can think of that are similarly located are Denver and Atlanta, which are other railway cities. That means that captured rainwater only robs from downstream uses, where the real supply shortages occur...

Probably won't slow the exodus from BC and ON

    Water main break discussion

Rain barrels don't make much sense in Calgary. Irrigation accounts for most water use in Alberta. Most indoor water is treated and released into the Bow and can be used downstream (the WID intake is upstream of Calgary's wastewater outflows, but the much larger EID and BRID diversions are...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Ottawa never fully recovered from the Dot Com Crash as its tech industry was highly leveraged towards telecom hardware (ex. Nortel, JDS, Newbridge). It also suffered the same challenges as Calgary did during the oil boom....Why work for a tech startup when you can do desktop support for the...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

How about removing the 4% Provincial Government Tourism Levy, and 3% Destination Marketing Fees from all hotels and short term rentals?

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Aren't pavers a lost cause with Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles unless they are completely within a pedestrian zone? East Village kind of cheated as the pavers there look to be place on top of asphalt.

Yet all of the oilsands plants that ramped production during the Trudeau era didn't push up per capita GDP. They likely arrested declines and I expect TMX and LNG Canada to do the same.

Those only have 802.15. 4 so the reader must be within 70m or so. The City doesn't have the ability to scale up to daily reading.

Empty threat. Very few smart water meters exist anywhere in the world. I've never seen one in Calgary

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Really? The party selects the leader in while the electorate selects the Mayor.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

The far bigger challenge will be Nenshi's personality. It is always all about him. That may drive somewhat of a civil war within the NDP. Emotions always get in the way of pragmatism.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

The Red Line will likely need capacity upgrades far earlier than will the Green. It is a major miss not roughing in an underground Red Line interchange station while tunneling for the Green Line.

Only if he can do better in Calgary than did Notley. I'd be interested in an overlay showing showing wards that voted for Nenshi and those than voted NDP. I suspect a high correlation. I doubt a Nenshi led NDP will win much south of Glenmore.

The house that I purchased backing onto Fish Creek Park in my mid 20's is listed for 6X what I paid in 1996. Another data point, the house that my parents bought in 1980 sold in 1996 for 2/3 of the purchase price. It would now go for about 3X the 1980 price. Timing matters.
