    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Another new one...DP in for a 126 unit project along south side of 17th. Address is 121 17 AV SE. Good use of a mid-block site IMO with a decent amount of ground level retail proposed.

    Heritage Plaza | 91m | 26s | Arcadis

Agreed. If you compare this style of development to, say, University District or West District, where effort has been made to provide a high quality pedestrian realm with walkable streets, it's somewhat lacking. I get that these are smaller sites without the benefit of being able to master...

I think he is referring to the possibility of GL being elevated and how that might impact the marketability of the first few floors.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The floor plate for the unbuilt tower is pretty small I believe, unless the plan is to rip out the entire foundation and start over again (not the impression I get from the article). If elevated rail does happen, I wonder if they might contemplate something like Bronconnier's new tower by...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I'm not going to hold out hope for 70 storeys, but I would think to make purchasing that site worthwhile, probably as a bare minimum they'd be looking at 40 storeys (and more likely at least 50). It'd just be nice to see something go up on that site after 40 years.

    Lincoln | 120m | 37s | Truman | NORR

I know neither is downtown, but they also have Marc & Mada, and the new 26 storey tower planned for West District both under review. Those are both big highrise projects that will keep them busy.

    West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

Seeing how much is finished or under construction in WD is impressive, but that model shows that they're not even 1/3 done. Can't wait to see how it's going to look in a few years' time.

    Kit at Kensington | 50m | 15s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

I believe you are referring to the Sony site. I am pretty sure that one has now been approved but no signs of a construction start on that one. Hopefully in the new year...

    Kit at Kensington | 50m | 15s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

It certainly will! Few of the big projects that started this year even have a crane up yet. Between all of the towers that will see crane bases in the coming months and there likely being 4 cranes at the Event Centre, it's going to be the most cranes we have had in a long time.

    CNIB | 86m | 27s | CNIB | S2

I appear to be in the minority but I'm a fan. It's a huge improvement on the depressing, institutional feeling of most buildings in that part of Bridgeland. And will hopefully be a catalyst for more development on the east side of the neighbourhood. I was able to peruse the DP drawings, and...

Definitely an improvement on what we usually get on the edge of town!

    Beltline Block | 118m | 36s | ONE Properties | Gibbs Gage

You are correct, the DP is only for the first tower. The amenity area, parkade ramp and waste & recycling for the tower will encroach into the footprint of the Transalta building so that's why part of the building is to be demolished so the site guy is correct. But the good news is the DP for...

    Kit at Kensington | 50m | 15s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

Soon to be a new tallest for Kensington! Quite an exciting week we've had with confirmation of construction starts for both Lincoln and Kit

    Chinook North Multifamily | 21m | 6s | M2SC

Yet another sign that TOD may finally be starting to happen in Calgary, at least in earnest. DP recently submitted for a site in between Chinook Centre and the LRT station. Nothing spectacular by any means, but I do think it's cool that they are doing mid block multi on a smaller site.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Bottom line is there's no point in litigating right and wrong - yes the Province were jackasses for yanking funding at the last moment (at least in lot of people's opinions), but no there's not a lot we can do about it. So the 2 levels of government need to stop scrapping and start working...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I've been on a few other metro systems that are above grade through a city core. Dubai, Bangkok, and Chicago's EL. Detroit's little "people mover" is elevated too. They all seemed to work OK. At this point, Job 1 should be for the Province and City to work together for once and find a way...

    Vera Sunnyside | 26m | 6s | Vera Group | FAAS Architecture

I agree Surreal. We all like skyscrapers, obviously, but I do want to see more (a LOT more) of those smaller boutique residential projects get moving. And Kensington is the ideal place for them.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

DP submitted for corner of MacLeod & Heritage (SE corner this time). First phase will be replacing a portion of existing strip mall with a 26 storey tower. No details as of yet on future phases but I believe it will be more towers of similar size & height. Should be showing up in DMAP in the...

    Lincoln | 120m | 37s | Truman | NORR

Marc & Marda will be a while off yet, DP has only just been submitted so the earliest I could see them starting is next summer. Same with their new tower at West District. Truman really jumped into the highrise pool with both feet. It's crazy how much they have going on now. Cidex used to be...
