    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It's just the parking lot. The other buildings adjacent will remain, which is awesome.

This should brighten up everyone's mood on this chilly gloomy Friday...Library Sq North, with an eventual second phase mirroring on the south side of the street. I'm a big fan - I think this is perfect scale for this part of EV and I love the red brick - and it's just nice to see an application...

    Statscan numbers

The other interesting trend is that we are on track to, eventually, surpass Montreal as the 2nd largest city by municipal population. I see they have put some runway between us as they are now at 1.9 million but certainly possible, if not probable, in the next couple of decades.

    Statscan numbers

I estimate 81,000 if you add up Foothills County and the 3 the municipalities within of Okotoks, High River and Diamond Valley. Strathmore should be around 15,000 right now, but TBH I think it's a little far to be included in our urban area (although if we were a US city, it almost certainly...

There's still plenty of SFH going up in places like Markham, Vaughan, Milton and Halton Hills that are still part of the CMA.

I remember what a big deal it was when Toronto hit 3 million, I believe back in the late '80s. It was only a few years earlier that it surpassed Montreal. Toronto has gotten so far ahead of the pack that the concept of a "big 3" or "big 6" or whatever one ascribes to is becoming redundant...

Those are some crazy numbers all around...cities across Canada are growing rapidly. In addition to Calgary barrelling towards 2 million, lots of other upcoming milestones...Winnipeg is probably a couple years away from hitting a million, Kitchener is basically at 700k and Montreal is a few...

    Munro | 26m | 7s | Calgary Co-op | NORR

Munro and Harmony between them should provide a bit of a much-needed street wall along this part of 16th.

    General Construction Updates

I will be really pissed off if the Gresham Block demolition is allowed to go ahead. We have so few historical lyrics significant buildings as it is. This is simply inexcusable.

    Calgary International Airport

Mexico City would be a good connection point to Latin America. I flew the old Mexicana flight to Mexico City 15 or so years ago. Their flight loads were actually quite good, the main reason it failed is Mexicana went under not long afterwards. Also, it's a really cool city, and well worth a...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

With the Feds now a lame-duck government already being seen as fiscally incompetent following their underestimating the deficit by $20 billion, and with no realistic chance of winning any seats in Alberta, I don't expect they'll see any advantage in giving the city any more than has already been...

    Travel Discussion Thread

I suggest an even split of time between Tokyo and Osaka. Osaka itself has some attractions worth checking out, like Osaka Castle, and while it is a bit like a "mini Tokyo" as previously mentioned (with almost 20 million people still not that "mini"), it's a great home base for exploring Kyoto...

Looks good! We must be pretty close to full buildout of the EV waterfront sites - now hopefully we'll see more action on those parking lots.

    Bridgeland Mixed Use | 22m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | S2

I would imagine their DP approval requires substantial environmental mitigation, removal of contaminated soil, etc but I'm sure someone with an engineering background could explain that better. It's certainly a sign they are proceeding ASAP though. I actually really like this project...

DP not approved but submitted, so still good news and a very positive sign as it costs a lot of money to prepare and submit a DP drawing package, along with the fees etc.

So the DP for redevelopment/expansion of the Centennial Planetarium site has been submitted. I'll post some renders when I get a few minutes.
