    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Over the last decade I've lived in this city, increasingly Stampede has spread across Downtown and the Beltline. It's nice to see that the festival itself is too big to hold just on and near the grounds, and that we are spreading the events around a bit more. Makes it a LOT more desirable for...

    West Tenth 1400 | 24m | 7s | Trimount

Are there any trees planned? Like, any greenery along the sidewalk?

    General Construction Updates

Unfortunately the timeline for this seems to be end of summer - according to the project page (https://www.calgary.ca/planning/parks-rec/humpy-hollow-redevelopment.html) we are still nearly 2 months out. Not sure how that's even possible with the park looking nearly complete.

Pretty sure they vacated that building a few years back. They moved their offices into Eighth Avenue Place. That building is mostly empty, no?

    906 Office Conversion | 80.5m | 22s | Makan Properties | Zeidler

I don't know why so many of these projects insist on a reclad. Like, leave the facade alone and put in double paned windows. Knock out a few panels for balcony's if really necessary. Add insulation. These facades can't be at the end of their lifecycle. I just don't buy it.

    Palliser One | 122m | 27s

395 units added to an existing building. That’s pretty sweet if you ask me! Great location for young professionals - will hopefully help induce some much needed sidewalk/frontage restoration. Great spot if you work at the airport, too.(300,301) This and a completed Glenbow, as well as the...

I wish they’d stop expanding into the park, and maybe build over the parking lot.

A rare instance where artificial turf would be preferred. I’d also go for a thick mat of moss/clover. But I think we’re too dry for it.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I tagged along with a friend while he was apartment hunting and we viewed a couple units in the West Village towers. We ended up chatting with the building manager and he said Tower 3 will commence in the summer after some spring prep. So, we should start to see a lot of activity there very...

    Statscan numbers

https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/dai-quo/cal2-eng.htm It doesn’t look like we get the estimates for at least the next two weeks :( (Based on StatsCan’s release schedule)

I hope they use this opportunity to scrape the goose shit from the bottom of the of pond. Though not as bad as Regina - where I am right now -it is a pet peeve of mine that we accept Canadian Geese ruining our parks in the name of historical reverence and environmentalism. They’re gross. Can...

    Uxborough Phase 1 | 45m | 14s | Western Securities | Gibbs Gage

Given some construction/tenant commitments would precede the pandemic, and the increased need for mixed-use/adaptable space, it may be financially advantageous to complete more than one use at a time. This would equate to more than one building. Though the site space is mixed-use, the buildings...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

I've spent some time in Winnipeg recently, and nothing I know compares to their Salter-Isabel-Colony-Memorial-Osborne-Dunkirk-Dakota St./Dr./Blvd. As someone who rarely becomes directionally confused, the differing names threw me. Locals will get it, it's the tourists... 😛

Oh I knew this! I don’t know why I was confusing myself. For some reason I was labelling Stadium Shopping Centre as Motel Village. Brain farts.. Thank-you!

    General Construction Updates

Manhattan and Calgary are not comparable, at all. One way streets in that city serve the purpose of moving as many people through a space as possible. This is becoming less desirable as a means to neighborhood building as we learn more about the disadvantages, and as we move toward constructing...

    General Construction Updates

For the amount of traffic that Calgary’s downtown streets handle on an average workday, there is no need for many (any) of them to be one way. Most, if not all of our current one ways (I’m looking at you 11th and 12th) could be 4 lane (two in each direction) with centre turning lanes. I would...

Is this replacing the building where Dairy Queen and Big T’s currently is? I can’t seem to place this in my mind.

A look at how Curtis Block, among others, have really filled the gap along Macleod. I get a lot of pleasure looking at this photo I took from 5th floor Chumir. Yes, I get tested regularly 😅Photo Credit - Me, 2021
