Removing electrical boxes from the edge of Tompkins Park. 👍 Electrical boxes that were put in place as part of the still ongoing 17th Avenue main streets project (now in its 6th year!). 🤣

Wow, close election. I really think the NDP could have won if they didn't make a few key mistakes in the campaign.

The only functional use to them is as a signage mount - sometimes it's nice to pull the signs off the building. I agree with you that it's nicer to have a closed canopy, but at least we have a semi-arid climate here.

I don't believe the provincial government has much control over interest rates nor inflation. These are also generally constant from jurisdiction to jurisdiction - so not really relevant to the discussion whatsoever. In chatting with some finance folks over the long weekend who are also fed up...

Because it almost doubles the cost due to the additional steel required for snow loading. That's why you don't often see closed canopies.

An odd metric to measure a tax that affects every sector of the economy. Corporate income tax rates have an immediate and material impact on after tax cashflows and consequently the IRR for every capital investment project in the province. Capital is mobile, and capital budgeting does not occur...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I was preparing myself to vote NDP for the first time ever until they came out with their fiscal plan with this 38% corporate tax increase. I had hoped that them bringing in Hirsch would have mitigated the financial and economic naivety that is the NDP's main weakness. Things are going very well...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Regardless of how long it takes to charge, it's bizarro to include parking of any sort in an urban park in a dense neighbourhood like this. I'm assuming this is more of a temporary activation of the existing parking lot rather than an actual expansion of the park. I.e. this portion of the lot...

That Abacus poll is a bit of an outlier compared to some of the other recent ones that show a UCP lead https://338canada.com/alberta/polls.htm It really seems like most people have tuned out this election, there is zero buzz around it - I haven't heard anyone talking about it in a social...

    General Construction Updates

Like it or not shermy, it's gonna happen sooner or later - especially with what Leonard has done in turning a sleepy street into a destination in just a couple years. Ideally (and likely) the redevelopment adds more commercial square footage than it takes away, meaning more local businesses! I...

Stampitecture > Swoopitecture (someone needs to tell CMLC this).

Leonard Group is the GOAT of character retail development - what they've done on 34th is fantastic. That strip mall with the liquor store is a prime candidate for redevelopment next.

Unfortunate architecture, but at least it’s the type of project we need to see more of along urban arteries.

As anticipated, there is going to be a complete restart on the design. Potentially with a completely new team at the helm. That 4-8 timeline for design/permitting is bananas though, especially considering they still need to hire a development manager. Transcribed courtesy topfiverecords on CP...

It will be a complete restart with another public RFP. The site and program has fundamentally changed from the previous iteration, not much design work will be salvageable. Doing preliminary design work doesn't necessarily help design firms win open RFPs - in fact, it often works against them.

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

For comparison - this is where Oktoberfest takes place. I think it would be possible to improve the perimeter of Stampede park, but the interior is likely destined to be a paved expanse.
