    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Certainly there is a compromise to be made. 16th is important both as a transportation corridor and as the core of an urban area with high potential, whose growth and revitalization are critical towards a prosperous future for the city. Those strategies could be adopted to varying degrees to...

    Calgary's Homeless

The Drop-In center is the largest homeless shelter in North America. Some people frame that as a positive thing, but articles like this make me question if a "one size fits all" approach that clusters everyone together is really worth it. I feel really bad for those people who need the shelter...

    Calgary's Homeless

That's a big exaggeration and completely against my intent. Is it not dehumanizing to leave people in the cold without shelter and without a home? Obviously in an ideal world you would have great quality homes for everyone, but in this case I think material progress and actually delivering...

    Calgary's Homeless

Some cities have done tiny home villages, yes. Here are the main problems with them and how my proposal would hope to solve them: They often come with lots of rules that make homeless people unwilling to accept them – I propose making smaller communities / clusters with less regulations Because...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I wonder if it would be possible to have the railyard in Lynnwood on that contaminated land, or if we could move the Pop Davies athletic park to the contaminated land and put the railyard in its place.

    Calgary's Homeless

The homeless hub says there is somewhere around 1,935 homeless people living in Calgary. If I were in charge of the response, here’s what I would personally try doing to fix the homeless crisis: Build tiny homes for each and every homeless person, plus some extra for flexibility. But make them...

    Sunalta Heights | 88.39m | 27s | Housing One | S2 Architecture

Really like how it extends the skyline. The others on 14th St will complement it, and then hopefully Sunalta really takes off and we see more soon after!

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

If they did the extension, they might need to *gasp* remove some parking spots

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

This is a moot point. The green line is already happening. First off, admin should make decisions based on what will solve problems, not popularity contests. Secondly, there are far better and cheaper ways to improve transit beyond building another $6 Billion rail line after the green line...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

No kidding. I made this for fun, but if you start to do the math on how much this should cost, it shows just how mind-bendingly expensive following this model would be. The toolbox forecasts 99 interchanges and upgrades up until 2076. Let's take a look at some of the most recent interchange...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

The upgrade of that i/c in 2050-76 is from the Blackfoot/Glenmore interchange being upgraded, which will also reconfigure the Deerfoot/Glenmore one as a result. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a Deerfoot/Glenmore reconfiguration much earlier given the plans to expand the number of lanes...

I made a map with all the interchanges planned as part of the forecasting toolbox: https://www.calgary.ca/content/www/en/home/planning/transportation/toolbox.html

    Calgary Transit

The one time I rode Max Yellow I also noticed a lot of time stoppage. I think the scheduling initially massively underestimated the speed its able to make. I have gathered data on trip lengths and headways from Calgary Transit over the past few years and you can actually see the average...

    Calgary Transit

Looks to be a rehash of this map from the Calgary Transportation Plan: From: https://www.calgary.ca/pda/pd/municipal-development-plan/municipal-development-plan-mdp.html (I was unable to notice any differences)

    Calgary Transit Fantasy Maps

I made a new version of my network map. The focus here was stick to the basics, and show what our rapid transit network could look like within a couple years if we cared: (You can also view it here if it's hard to see...

    1900 Marda Loop | 23m | 6s | Sarina Homes

There's no way a tunnel could ever make financial sense. It would be pretty easy to extend 42nd to Flanders Avenue by cutting out a slice of park space, but unpopular, and I'm not sure how much of the issue it would actually solve. We'd need a study to see the impacts.

    Calgary Transit

Yeah it definitely needs to stop there. It's 800m in either direction for the next stops, that's beyond what people are gonna walk to. Since it's already slowing down to use the traffic circle it's not like it's a huge time hit to stop there whenever someone needs to get on.

    1900 Marda Loop | 23m | 6s | Sarina Homes

How can we speak up in favor of this?
