/\Ah, forgot about The Hub. 26 floors I believe.

These are the actual renders from the DP package - so it should be an accurate representation

    Statscan numbers

It is strange. Ottawa is nearly 2x Winnipeg or Quebec's population and 3-4x Halifax's, yet lags all 3

    Aria Encore | 56m | 17s | Gracorp | Zeidler

/\I think the University City twins are 19 or 20 floors. Also the MacKimmie Tower, while only 13 or 14 floors, may be taller since it's offices and office floors tend to have much higher floor to ceiling heights. But Aria definitely stands out. I like the look of a mostly mid rise district...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Well, Nelson has been around for a long time and he has to have gotten the $8 billion figure from somewhere, I wonder if someone on Council leaked it to him? I must admit, if the above is true is it really worth $8 billion for a line that only goes to Ogden? That's a huge cost to only serve a...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

We definitely need the line to be either buried or elevated downtown. The level of congestion with all 3 lines running along the surface through downtown would be untenable. As it is I wonder how long it will be before there's pressure to bury the red and green line ROW as well.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

/\Nice! If you check out the DP drawings for the Sony site, it turns out that their increase in density is due to them planning a second tower of similar size to the first (which seems to still be moving ahead with more or less its original design). They appear to have a land use amendment...

    Calgary I Mainframe I 23m I 6s I MODA

I really like it. Further proof that the 6 storey stuff can still look great - it has a sleek modern look and bonus points for not having brown or beige stucco. Also a creative approach to parking that ought to keep costs down and speed up construction vs underground parking. I hope we see...

    Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

To be fair, that sounds like it's just Eric Francis' perspective. Has he even seen the renders?

I am glad everyone's expectations are appropriately modest.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Yes but Council approves land use, not design. If Council did have concerns around walkability, etc they could have approved the land use but directed that the DP go to Planning Commission for review.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

What a missed opportunity to provide hundreds of housing units within walking distance to LRT! We aren't going to solve the housing crisis by building a few dozen rowhouse 4-plexes in Altadore and Mt Pleasant at $800,000 a unit. This Council is incredibly frustrating sometimes.

    Bridgeland Place Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Calgary Housing

If the "bones" of the tower are good, seems to make sense refurbishing rather than demolishing. The parking lot that takes up the rest of the site is basically a rectangle that could easily accommodate hundreds more units, even in a 6 storey wood frame configuration.

    SAIT Campus Centre | 24m | 5s | SAIT | GEC

I checked today and their DP has not been released yet so I believe they may have received partial permits (stripping & grading, excavation, foundation, etc) similar to the Event Centre.

Truman has moved really fast on this one. I'm a big fan of Broward and looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

    Bridgeland Place Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Calgary Housing

So it appears they are renovating rather than tearing down the building, which is a bit of a surprise. I had heard that the building had a massive infestation problem and was considered beyond its useful life. Hopefully this means they can get the building reopened a lot quicker than if they...

    JEMM 16th Ave | 100m | 30s | Jemm Properties

Eww. I fucking hate it. Seems like a waste on a site that could do something taller and a lot less shitty looking. Did they sell the site to Arlington? And what is with those tiny little at grade windows? And who thought that black brick would be a good street level treatment? Although...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Some good points raised above. I do want to see GL built, but I am at a loss to understand how it is going to cost so much for so relatively little. One thing I have noticed, generally speaking, is that infrastructure projects - and transit projects in particular - seem to almost always go...
