    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I've heard a lot of people that are part of this project are pissed. There's nothing wrong with doing value engineering. However, to do it at this stage of the game...right before tender...after all the community consultations and open houses. It's madness.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

IIRC there will be a new pedestrian crossing over the tracks on the west side of the Inglewood greenline station. Also, I think the river pathway will go under the Ramsay bridge on both sides.

As long as there aren't any 'At-grade' crossings I'm okay with it. We might even be able to get a sweet multi-use pathway along the bridge. Plus, I'd be kind of cool when the train emerges from the bluff and passengers get a brief view of downtown.

But where are the streetcars and fedora's!? Plus...those orwellians buildings in the background don't look too 1940's to me. 😜

This. You hit the nail on the head. I'd take downtown Calgary 1945 over downtown Calgary 2019 any day.

The Badlands are so underrated! I find most tourist go to Banff and Lake Louise, while a much smaller percent go to the badlands.

I'm pretty underwhelmed with the way the 17th Ave reno's have gone so far.

Lol! Well...it's no Telus Sky to say the least. It's kinda cool that each floor has about 4-6 units. It's tall and skinny :p

I'd respectively disagree. I thought this infill was kind of cool: https://www.google.ca/maps/@51.0512855,-114.0643029,3a,75y,51.94h,120.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUSuMWSegGqy3hw9z9JoxmQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656...

Yeah, I prefer the 2nd street bikeway. There's hardly any auto traffic and the streets are nice for biking.

    General Construction Updates

To me Seton always seemed like instant urbanism. The pieces are there, but just like you mentioned it isn't walkable. It's kind of funny...AFAIK, since WW2, North American cities haven't been able to create a greenfield 'high street' that is organic and not faux-ish.

I love these types of developments. They fit the neighborhood perfectly. I wish we had 100 more of these throughout our inner city.

I actually don't mind the Met. It seems kind of different from the other developments we've seen in Calgary. It has a kind of European feel...but a like commie block/euro suburb feel. At least there is a decent stretch of ground floor retail on the Met, but...to each their own! 😛

Great comments from everybody above. I'll throw my two cents in. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd prefer the building to be smaller. Maybe 10-15 stories would suffice. I'd like to see a better podium on the building with a focus on the main floor retail. As it stands now, it's not a bad...

5th Ave. lane reversal to end: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/lane-reversal-fifth-avenue-pilot-ends-cancel-downtown-traffic-1.5151338 It's a shame. I always thought it worked well. too bad the city couldn't find funds to make it permanent.

Looks kinda cool. I don't know how functional it is. Most of the square footage is consumed by staircases.

    Alpha House Discussion

I agree with you. I think you may have misunderstood me. I might not have been too clear. I'm not advocating for de-funding Alpha house or relocating it. In fact, I think Calgary's streets would be a lot rougher without the Alpha House. My point was that the alpha house and the DIC provide a...
