Open concept office to individual units, not to mention all the utility/fire/air flow changes....it'd be impossible to keep as is

Why would they do this to such a cool building? So disappointing that they have an opportunity to give new life to an attractive, older, underutilised building and instead of working with the architecture, they decide to make it ugly.

Not dumb at all. Many of us have wondered the same thing. I've been told that it's to do with the new building codes relating to exterior insulation ratings. I'm not sure if that applies to this particular building, but it wouldn't surprise me..

It's not great.. but it's pretty close to the render, no? I guess the material is a lot less reflective.

It has to do with the fact that residential units require bedrooms to have windows that open and close.

Office towers, historically, have been curtainwall structures with large window panels that do not open and close. Due to this, recent conversions have opted to replace these old systems with more efficient window wall systems that have open/close panels, albeit to the detriment of quality.

This is why Petrofina was able to get away with minimal exterior changes- it was already a window-wall building, so only the windows themselves needed replacing, not the entire system.
