ground break this spring

Will be nice to get something - anything - built on this site. I am still surprised that they're going 9 storeys and thus, incurring the extra cost to go concrete for the sake of 3 extra floors.

Something is better than nothing and maybe this can help something happen at the lot across 4th Ave and old CBE building across 5th and Macleod from that.

The city needs to look at breaking the DIC lease and distributing their services to multiple satellite locations. The efficiency of having everything on site is not worth the concentrated issues the DIC causes to East Village. You've invested millions in the community and the property taxes you're collecting to pay off those investments are reduced because of the community's proximity to one building. With the pending closure of the safe injection site, it is time we think about how we can best serve those people affected by that closure and the people affected by those people.

Why does the DP say that it's going to be 24 storeys? I assume we've got the right reporting here
The DP from 2024 was originally for 24 storeys, but was amended in Jun 2025 for 9 storeys. I think the city forgot to update the details in the Application Information section.

The DIC is looking at this exact scenario right now. It was never designed for its current, overwhelming use.

Guess we're the April fools on this one, hard to expect them to go forward with this in this location in a cooling market. On a positive note, it could mean something better ends up going here. It is not like this is what is dragging down the area, there are numerous empty or underutilized parcels in this section of downtown.
