Things can definitely change, that release and that website doesn't look like some iron-clad guarantee of the format, it's two years away. The travel to Europe for some round robin, and then BACK for the finals does seem a bit excessive for the European teams. I think this is for NHL players only, which I'm not even sure how many can dress a full team outside of Sweden/Finland. I wonder if the compromise is to hold the tournament in one location but have games that start at noon so they're watchable for European audiences.
It won't be exclusively for NHL players. They wouldn't be able to field 8 full teams. But it does lead to an interesting question about where teams like Germany, Slovakia or Switzerland get the players to fill out their rosters? The NHL must have some sort of agreement in place with leagues in Europe.

Games played over 12 days doesn't necessarily mean a 12 day break either; the Olympics men's tournament was played over 12 days (Feb 11-22) although the NHL game break was longer. Looking at the Olympic tournament as a model, it had round-robin from the 11-15, then qualifiers on the 17th, quarters on the 18th, semis on the 20th and final/bronze on the 22nd. But that tournament had 12 teams; an 8 team tournament with 17 games is two four team round-robin pools (6 games per pool), then 2 quarter final games (with first place getting a bye), 2 semis and 1 final. And the round robin pools either ran 11-14 or 12-15.

My assumed tournament would be a CAN-USA-DEU-SVK pool in North America and a FIN-SWE-CZE-SUI pool in Europe (depending on host venue obviously) with only the round robin in Europe. Basing off the 12 day Olympic schedule, that could be NA round robin 11-14, Euro round robin 12-15 and then quarters on the 18th with travel time for the Euro teams to return. Or they could have the quarter final in Europe and not cross over between the pools; not as ideal but puts a higher-stakes game in Europe.

wow they are motoring with that upper bowl/steel on the north side! Still suprised they didn't do some type of loft premium in that open space on upper south side, utilities are only in the corners

Yeah that Northside area (if images and what we can see so far are any indication) looks awful. So much empty blank wall and space. Why didn’t they just go fully around with the upper level? Maybe it’s there so they can hang a giant portrait of the Queen…..

First of all, that's the west side. Second of all, that's the concert stage end, so having seats and premium areas up top aren't as important. A new major trend is having a large open area, with bars or sometimes clubs at one end of the upper bowl instead of seating. You see this in UBS Arena (open area with bars) and Rogers Place (Clubs)

Agree, once finished that will be one of the more visually appealing areas on the bowl (lighting, maybe some LED??)
