Still waiting on the Brentwood Co-op too...
With Quarry Bay thankfully out of the picture, maybe we'll see something happen there, though if they were to use Royop again it might end up being a smaller development of Munro's scale. I'd like to see them partner with a larger developer like Bosa, Truman, Slokker, etc.. and come up wit some high rise action.

My parents went on the weekend and said the parkade was pretty full. They live within walking distance but were thinking of using the heated parking in the winter to thaw out their car from time to time. They also said the store gets lots of lunch time traffic from Colonel Macleod school so the increased grab and go options will be well used.
Ah, I didn’t even consider there might be a parkade lol.

What coop needs is management with some vision. I don’t know if they’ve changed, but they used to have mgmt that didn’t care much for change or thinking big.
The fact they originally engaged a company like Quarry Park is telling.

I was at the new store yesterday. I have to say, it’s really nice, kind of a cross between a regular grocery store and an Urban Fare.

I had some butter chicken and vindaloo from the curry soup station and was happy with it. I thought it was good value.

Sounds like the old store is not having residential, just retail? Just an uninformed theory but is the challenge is they want to own the land and asset, so for the big developers, it just doesn't make sense to be a development partner (builder) when they can spend their effort and labour on projects of their own. You can see when they're just a grocery partner, Truman is building a large development in Marda Loop, but where they own the land, it's hard to get developers buy in.

"The original North Hill Food Centre will be demolished to make way for approximately 15,000 sq ft of additional retail space, including a Calgary Co-op Wine, Spirits, Beer store and a touchless car wash at the existing gas station, all slated to open in 2027."

Also some pictures of the store. For a 41,000 sqft store they manage to fit a lot of unique offerings like an oyster bar!

The other issue is the size of co-op as grocery chain. I would think for larger developers, like Rio can, or Bosa, they would want to partner with a grocery store. They know can carry it, even if business is slow. The last thing they would want is to have a grocery store at the base and have it close down.

Co-op is probably big enough. It’s anchoring the Marc and Marda project which is pretty big.
