The grocery store is nice urban type store. 100 times better than the old store.
They have a good selection of ready made hot dishes and deli items. It’s similar to the Midtown co-op.Looks like they are offering a lot of ready to go stuff. Perfect for all the new residents that are coming soon.
My parents went on the weekend and said the parkade was pretty full. They live within walking distance but were thinking of using the heated parking in the winter to thaw out their car from time to time. They also said the store gets lots of lunch time traffic from Colonel Macleod school so the increased grab and go options will be well used.I stopped in to check it out the new store. It’s nicely done. There’s not much parking, so you can tell they are targeting the young and busy who will be living in all the new apartment buildings going up in the area.
I hope they do this format with their other stores.
I am existing that target demographic now but I'd imagine if I lived physically above a grocery store it would probably capture 90% of my grocery spending, regardless of the price.I stopped in to check it out the new store. This is how more expensive neighbourhood grocery stores compete against the big box, convenience.I am existing that target demographic now but I'd imagine if I lived physically above a grocery store it would probably capture 90% of my grocery spending, regardless of the price.
The convenience of a full service grocery with lots of good ready-made options instantly accessible would be such a powerful incentive, I'd gladly put up with a bit higher prices if it means no hour(s) long commutes to Costco and back just to save a few bucks.
The challenge will be when those discount chains put their small format stores next to this. We've only got two so far (Freshco in Frontier and No Frills in WVT), but I think we'll see more overtime. This is how more expensive neighbourhood grocery stores compete against the big box, convenience.
Yes. There’s a second phase which is a similar sized building. So is the old Coop going to be torn down for more residential?
