I'm sure they'll put some advertising or promo on those walls and not leave them blank. At first, I was thinking you could lower the upper bowl, get rid of the stairs and push the concessions against the exterior wall and that would move the circulation space against the bowl. Then I thought what's better is you could maintain the height of the upper bowl and still push concessions and washrooms to the exterior that way the concourse is open to the bowl. Not like there are windows that you're worries about too much light getting into the bowl. Maybe just a me thing, oh well.

Doesn't it make more sense to compromise headroom in the washrooms and concessions than the concourse?

I agree, which is why I would've kept the height but move concessions and washrooms to the outside wall. I just like the idea of the concourse being open to the bowl. I actually think it could improve concession sales, if you feel like you can go grab something during play without missing much, you'd be more likely to do it.

The washrooms are positioned closer to the seats so you don't have as far to go, nor have to cross concourse traffic, thus being able to go during the play without missing as much. Unlike the opposite scenario of the Saddledome everyone hated.

The grab and gos right below the seats are going to also allow you to get concession super fast.

The men's washrooms are a little concerning in the upper bowl. There are only two permanent men's washrooms in the upper concourse, and you have to cross concourse traffic to get to them along the north and south walls. Only these two washrooms in the upper concourse have urinals, and all the flex washrooms in the corners of the inner concourse have just toilets. Some of these flex washrooms are ridiculously tiny too. For example one in the SE corner has just 3 toilets.

I guess they consider male upper deck ticket buyers Tier 2 fans.

Isn't the upper bowl in the new arena far smaller than the upper bowl at the dome? Also for the flex washrooms, is this just toilet stalls that they can label Men/Women depending on event? It's kind of funny they had an article and event all about these washrooms when they're pretty common elsewhere.

It looks like 14 rows if I count correctly. The current Saddledome sides have 24 on one side and 21 on the other. The press level ranges from about 13 to 20 rows in the middle.

For posterity, current lower bowl is 13 rows. New lower bowl looks like 22 plus 3 in the boxes.

Many like to complain that Scotia Place is smaller than the dome, but without the press level nosebleeds, that just isn't true. The Dome's original capacity before the nosebleeds were added was 16,605 and that was before 1,000 seats were removed in the lower bowl to add suites back in the 90's which brings things closer to 15,600 at current. Scotia Place will seat 18,400 across two seating bowls even with it's U shaped upper bowl.

Scotia Place is 28 rows, plus 1 standing room in the lower bowl.

IMO, they hit the sweet spot. The seating capacity is on par or slightly above the capacity of other new arenas such as the new Intuit Dome in LA (which has no NHL team but seats 18000 for basketball) and UBS Arena where the Islanders play. Capacity is about the same as the other Canadian arenas, with the exceptions of Bell Centre on the high end and Canada Life Centre on the low end. And its going to have a higher capacity than the facilities of a lot of big market teams such as Boston and LA.

Bottom line, the designers prudently kept capacity at or slightly above the mid range for NHL arenas.

I think people will be surprised at just how much louder the average fan experience will be with all 18,400 fans in the same space with proper acoustics and no saddle shaped roof in the way, even with the more voluminous interior.
Exactly. The saddle shaped roof with those fluffy noise absorbing pads, made the building seem quieter than it really is. The noise level on the new building will feel more like a typical NHL arena.
