TIL: Marathon Realty Company was the development arm of Canadian Pacific. So the idea to relocate the tracks had support from within the company...did it fail internally, or did it fail to get public subsidy, or something else? I never knew Sykes history before becoming mayor in 1969.

Very cool - will definitely read that. Cool that it's available for free as a pdf.

The alternate route does not look awesome, though I wonder how much better Vic Park and Sunalta/West Village might have been...looks like Inglewood/Ramsay may have been even worse

Tracks in the place of RiverWalk, I can't imagine it now, and it would not have been worth having the current rail corridor developed. Especially if it came with a "Parkway", we'd be looking to have both removed.

The Riverwalk combined with the islands is a decent amount of urban park/trail space that few cities can match.

I would like to see the riverfront redeveloped through Alyth someday. Removing the rail yard, Canada Malting and ADM would open up a huge amount of land
