They haven't twinned it yet. I think there was a plan to do this, but I'm not actually not sure if there still is.

With the ring road complete, 16th no longer needs to serve as an expressway for people travelling through Calgary or to handle heavy truck traffic - in fact, I cross 16th every day en route to the train station at SAIT and rarely see heavy truck traffic using it. There's an opportunity to make it a much more pleasant road for residents and visitors rather than a car sewer; I'm 100% on board with doing something similar to what was done to accommodate Max Purple on 17th.

I just think Calgary needs an E-W freeway across the north side of the city - something equivalent to what Glenmore provides across the south.
Not saying it has to be 16th Ave., in fact I think JLB-McKnight are a more suitable option. That would free-up 16th to become more like what others are suggesting here.

Not sure of the name of this project or if this has been reported yet or not but there is a driller on site for the project that is on the SE corner of 16th Ave & 4th St NW.
