Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

My prediction for the location.

My prediction for the location.

I am probably over valuing the Fairmont brand but that area just doesn't seem.... prestige enough to me for them to build a fancy hotel there.

And that's ignoring the Chumir impact.

I guess they have a lot of hotels in a lot of big cities cores, and by sheer averages have to be pretty close to sketchy areas way worse then this (as this location is really not that bad, its just not "prime"), and honestly, I would love it there helping the area - so hopefully you are correct! I just cant see it being competitive there vs the proposed Marriot or other locations?

This is probably it. On a one way (although the traffic is going the wrong way), the parking lot is big enough for this type of room/unit count. And having the driveway connect to an alley would make sense. We complain a lot about parking lots but there are not actually a lot in that core area of the Beltline.

More fuel for the speculation fire...

"Fairmont Calgary is a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project, a major revitalization of Calgary's Culture and Entertainment District centered around the government funded $500 million expansion of its BMO Centre, completed in 2024...

...The project will bring together a world-class team of architects and designers to build and create the mixed-use building combining a Fairmont hotel with branded residences. The design concept will be announced, and the regulatory approvals process will be initiated in Q1 of 2026."

The way they explicitly state Stampede Park, there's just no scenario in my head that it isn't on Stampede Trail, be it next to Cowboys or next to the BMO

The strip mall is a bit of a gong show sometimes, but it's also an active place. If the circle K was gone the gong show element would disappear and maybe it wouldn't be too bad. That said, it does have a parking lot fronting 11th and would be much better with a new style of development.

CMLC anticipates construction to begin on three more development projects in 2026:

  1. Ayrshire Group’s Lyric (Lot G) will provide 208 residential units in a multi-residential six-storey building
  2. Slokker Homes’ Vibe (Lot Q2) will provide 218 residential units and 1,100 square meters of commercial space in a 13-storey building
  3. Trico Communities’ The Edgewater (Lot 41) will provide approximately 170 residential units across nine storeys, with commercial space and childcare services
  4. Truman’s Hotel Development (Lot N) will provide 132 hotel rooms in a five-storey development

Sorry to divert from the Fairmont project, but the bolded above - is this ANOTHER completely new hotel by Truman? Maybe Fairmont-adjacent somehow? This CMLC release just came out today...

We already knew about this one, I think it even has its own thread.
