Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

Plot twist. What if the Fairmont is attached to Elbow River Casino along 17th Ave? Obviously ERC would require some serious renovations to become close to hosting such a hotel, but still wouldn't it be funny to have luxury hotels sandwiching Alpha house?

Others here have condemned Alpha house for their mere existence. Yet, I find that really odd when they when no one seems to disagree that their service isn't valuable, and they were there first. Its like the second level NIMBY - Its valuable, but I don't want it in my backyard even though I moved here after they were established.

Anyway, as a person who believes these things are better spread and mixed throughout the city in different types of hoods, I personally would love the Faimount to be so close to Alpha house for numerous reasons.

However, I am not getting my hopes up!

More fuel for the speculation fire...

"Fairmont Calgary is a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project, a major revitalization of Calgary's Culture and Entertainment District centered around the government funded $500 million expansion of its BMO Centre, completed in 2024...

...The project will bring together a world-class team of architects and designers to build and create the mixed-use building combining a Fairmont hotel with branded residences. The design concept will be announced, and the regulatory approvals process will be initiated in Q1 of 2026."

I heard a rumour from a source that has always been reliable for me. The rumour is, this will be in Beltline (not Stampede area), around where Truman's other towers are under construction.
I have heard from a reliable source it is a little ways further west, near some of their existing buildings. There are 2 locations I think it could be, both on 17th Ave.

Love the work to try and solve the puzzle of the location - appreciate it folks.
I wonder why Fairmont would release any news about this development prior to having a design ready - just trying to keep up with Marriott ?

I know the "in the know" people are predicting farther west, so this is probably wrong, but who owns the lots on the corner of 17th and Macleod Tr. North bound?

Rendering has a one way street in front of it, and an open plaza type road/side walk across the street from it, albeit it renderings can be really off in that regard. I still think its by the new arena, but given the chatter in this thread, this is west of that, albeit it not as far west as the rumors.

The idea of a Fairmont being on 17th, or anywhere in the Beltline west of Macleod Tr northbound, with the except of 1st St SW, seems crazy to me, it just doesn't seem fancy enough (whatever the heck I mean by that). The area around the new Scotia Place seems like a way better fit, particularity when the Rivers Master Plan calls out hotels in that area.

Also... no one can identify the buildings beside it in the render, either its a new development area (cough rivers district near arena), render is wrong (entirely possible) or they are building a wide block, potentially going for possibly a disjointed look - depending what the top levels and higher quality renders look like

Personally I'd like it to be further west into the Beltline. Mainly because that part of the downtown is much nicer, and because it offers far more options for tourists within short walking distance. Some hotels at the Stampede grounds is good, but most visitors will be cabbing it over to Mission, 17th or Stephen Ave.

If the articles mentioning the regulatory process will start in Q1 2026, that tells me we will see the DP submitted in the next month or two. I don't think it will be long before we see the design and know the exact location. I am very curious to see how tall this one is. Apart from hints about location, I haven't heard many other details, so I do wonder if we will see something in the 50 storey range or not.

My hunch is it has a pretty big surface/base footprint since higher density cities like even Fairmont Beijing is a low-to-mid-rise, and Fairmont as a flag is more about landmark luxury than vertical skyscraper towers. Although the rumours say otherwise. If you’re thinking of dense CBD high-rise luxury, Accor’s other upscale names like Raffles, Sofitel (and Sofitel Legend), MGallery, Emblems, Banyan Tree, Pullman, and Swissôtel show up with higher floor counts more often. Actually surprises me that Accor wants two Fairmonts here vs offering one of their other brands..

Is it confirmed to be one tower? It could be substantially shorter if they split the hotel and residences into separate towers
I just edited my post above to include this, but, given no one can identify the buildings beside it in the render, either its a new development area (cough rivers district near arena), render is wrong (entirely possible) or they are building quite a wide block with multiple towers, potentially going for a disjointed look.

I say that as the render almost looks like they are creating a conference center/hall - Does Faimont work in that space? Is extra space like that needed in Calgary, in close proximity to the new BMO? That can't be right

I never really thought about the two tower scenario, but if that is the case we could probably be looking at something similar to the Residence Inn and SODO.
