Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

230 Keys + 100 Branded Residences + ultra-luxury ceiling heights and unit sizes. This will be tall.

I wouldn't be surprised if this reaches 240+ meters...

(For reference, the 246m J.W. Marriott has 248 Keys + 120 Branded Residences)
It's hard to do comparisons like this though. Fairmont Paliser is 407 rooms (shorter ceiling for sure). But the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver (modern, 140m) is 377 rooms + 175 branded residences, and is 44 floors (22 hotel, 22 residences). Really depends on the plot size and room mix. My guess is it'll be quite a bit shorter than the Marriott twins.

"Fairmont Calgary is a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project, a major revitalization of Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District centered around the government funded $500 million expansion of its BMO Centre, completed in 2024. The new BMO facility has created Western Canada’s largest convention facility, alongside infrastructure upgrades, new public spaces, and improved transit access to attract more events and visitors to the area."

This clearly hints that it is close to stampede park.

If anybody cares, this was ChatGPT's interpretation of cleaning up that rendering haha:

EDIT: Eh... best not have people think this is the real thing, since it's not.

So that doesn't appear to be a building in the background, but part of it most likely. If so, that's gives us nothing but the presser to go on for location. I'm not 100% sold on the Stampede area, just because they make mention of how good the redevelopment has been for them. Doesn't mean they go right there, but simply keep benefiting from being relatively close.

Edit: Fully aware the AI cleaning up isn't the real thing, but may still give us hints that they drawing may be the entire building and not background buildings.

The main reason I'm not convinced it's in the Stampede area is because we are already getting 3 large hotels there. A fourth seems like overkill!
Truman also has another one on the NE corner of EV. Once the 6th street underpass and Scotia Place opens, it'll be a pretty short walk to Stampede. If all of their ongoing projects and proposals gets built, maybe we should really rename city hall the Truman Centre for Civic Affairs. /s

Per the sketch (Though taken with a grain of salt), a few things stand out.
  • The block it is on seems to extend past the left of the image, meaning this is likely on the corner or middle of the block.
  • The vehicle access seems to extend through the building onto a back laneway. This is notable since most of the parcels in Victoria Park do not have lanes.
  • The main section of the facade is 16 windows across. Extremely thin. This is reaching billionaire's row proportions.
  • The ceiling heights in the sketch seem to be well over 3 meters, perhaps 4 or even 5 meters tall.

I like this mystery detective location game.

My guess is the "Eighth Avenue Place" pillar clue is actually a red herring, and is just part of the building itself. The building on the back left of the sketch is the back-of-house of either the Cowboys casino or the convention centre.

That means - corner of 12 Ave and 4th Street SE is my guess!
