Calgary International Airport

Special forces are getting blackhawks. The Valor's range and speed is so compelling, I doubt we end up with something else for the rest of the program.

As much as I don't like seeing DND go with the 51st state option all the time, it's hard to argue with the valor. Especially when its going to be ready years ahead of schedule.

Those would work great on amphib ships or helicarriers, but I wonder how well they perform in the arctic? Seems to be one of the weak points with US gear.

Churchill is my bet too. Make sense with the zoo location. If they were going to try direct flights from southern Canada to Iqaluit or Nuuk, would make more sense from Toronto.
Surprise, surprise. The guy with the Muskox avatar thinks it will be a northern destination ;)

While Churchill would be cool, I'm not sure if it qualifies as the "exciting for us" destination hinted at in this thread by another poster here. Exciting makes me think a new continent (Africa or South America) connected to YYC.

I'm not sure there is the demand to Churchill to support a direct flight. They already have direct flights to Winnipeg which makes sense as both the nearest large city and being the capital in the same province.

I am hoping for a non-Canada, non-US destination, preferably to a country we don't currently have service to. Ideally on a different continent but that sounds like a long shot since we likely don't have the needed 787 available to hit that range.

Arctic, we’re going to have to build heated hangars sometime, it may as well be now. At least with real units in production we can request in environment cold soak testing instead of simulations or a cold hangar.

I guess Dehavilland could always just build a fleet of Buffalos to renew what limited capacity we currently have.

Bell has talked about navalized versions of the Valor. The question is what is being lost to add the presumable stowage capability (versus self deploy and fixed wings for the Valors).

The Navy needs to replace the s92s/Cyclones which really suck. So if the Valor has the lift margin and can fit in the hangars…

They announced a codeshare with SAS as they joined Skyteam. While it's unlikely, I wonder if they move a 787 to do YYC-CPH in the summer.

In other news, they're changing the 180 seats planes back to 174, returning seat pitch to standard economy. Booking WJ is going to be completely inconsistent. You could get ex-lynx/swoop all economy, old Westjet layout, new 180 seat layout, newly reconfigured 176 seat (from 180) layout.

Probably just get seahawks the way things are going.. Not that its a bad thing, why not mimic the preeminent air power when you can?

I'm still looking for domestic production opportunities though, but I guess with helicopters its just not practical for the numbers Canada would need.

If a common fleet, then maybe? If we went into Valor in a big way, we could get component manufacturing as an offset, much like how Canada makes parts now for every F35. A full tip to tail manufacturing and assembly? Unlikely.

Speaking of F35 parts, the feds are leaning on LockMart for more jobs to keep the order. Though I'm not mistaken, LM made the offer first a year or so back?

Meanwhile SAAB wants a 78 jet commitment to setup a Canadian factory.

I hope both initiatives are successful, the combo could work well for Canada.

I agree, a mixed fleet is the way to go. The F-35 is undoubtedly the 'superior' aircraft however we need to increase military spending and Saab is giving us a compelling offer, one which we'd be silly to turn down.

I would think that something is in the works. I'm not sure private jets demand alone is enough for a big expansion at Bombardier

Bombardier is one of the biggest business jet manufacturers in the world, only second to Textron/Cessna in orders. There is 100% enough demand for it. I don't think their expansion has anything to do with RCAF jets.
