That’s crazy they got those backhoes on the roof!
Is there a future phase planned where they will be altered?I think the scope of work should be clarified for everyone: They are completely demolishing and reconstructing the existing residential tower from floors 3 to 9 and enlarging the floor area of the building slightly. The 2nd floor condo units at the rear, and commercial units on the main floor are not being altered in this phase. The building will remain 9 storeys.
With everything inside the building removed, there isn't much load on the structure anymore, so this is a pretty common form of demolition these days. That being said, I'm sure the operators need to be very careful to not accidentally drive off the roof! probably a little sketchy at times!Must be a sturdy building.
Thanks for the info. That makes more sense IMO. The huge cost of the underground and podium portion is still avoided, but for the residential floors they get to start fresh.I think the scope of work should be clarified for everyone: They are completely demolishing and reconstructing the existing residential tower from floors 3 to 9 and enlarging the floor area of the building slightly. The former court house building was demolished the same wayI didn't know they could put excavators on the roof
This post above clarified:Are they demolishing the tower portion and building a new one or are they just stripping it down to the skeleton? Since it's the same height as the existing building I assumed the latter?
