Drove by this today; predictably half of this new "pathway" was a snowbank, and the other half looked impassable for anyone with the slightest mobility challenge.

It's discouraging that this is the result of decisions within the last 15 years, and particularly disappointing that this outcome was deemed acceptable within this last year.

A new DP has been submitted by Slokker for the Cobalt site. Cobalt was the 4 tower site at the corner of 19th Ave and 85th Street, this one:

Quite a design change. Going to a 6 storey wood frame product, and unfortunately it looks like the mix of uses (retail and office) is gone as well:

That location would have been ideal for some degree of tower. It would have been pretty hard to make any of the usual arguments against it like shading/traffic, and its so proximal to services and current/future transit

This design era is going to age so poorly. Better than 90's vinyl siding but not much better.

I just don't understand what the issue is with making materials consistent. Why does everything need to be so convoluted with random rectangles and jogs and splotches of crap. Like come on, these buildings would be totally passable if it wasn't for that

It's really that simple. Probably cheaper and easier to build too. I just don't get it.

Aside from the points about design, all of which I agree with, I also don't understand the obsession with the colour beige among Calgary developers and/or architects. Don't they realize that we live in an arid climate in which beige is the predominant colour in the landscape for more than half the year?
