Here's my Blue Line extension proposal if we're still crayoning. The current plan to just extend westward through some of the lowest-density suburbs we have in this city is simply absurd.
We tend to worry so much about "potential for transit-oriented development" when we plan transit in this city - it may be time we start focusing on development-oriented transit.

It would be nice if this LRT extension were elevated down the median of 85th street. I hate excessive at-grade crossings.36th street in the NE is a nightmare.

I'd like to see at-grade LRT pick a side of a road and not go up medians. Like the Blue Line along 17th Ave and the Green Line along 24th Street and eventually 52nd Street.

Very UD looking! How's the retail side of WD compared to UD?
I think it will depend on what tennants they confirm are coming (I have heard rumour of a McDonalds as well here). There is a sign for a Big T's BBQ and another fast food style place I think on the standalone retail building, on the back of the Sobeys. What they don't have (yet) is a large beerhall type place like Banquet or Canadian Brew House, but I have a feeling that is what will end up in Radio Block, which would be awesome with views out over the park, similar to UD.

McDonalds is tough to imagine in WD, I thought they usually try to have a drive through which would be tough to incorporate.

I could see that more likely in West Springs Landing, just a bit further south on 85th street. See: https://westspringslanding.com/leasing

We're missing a high-volume fast food place like a McDonald's or Wendy's in the area, so there's an opportunity here, although I know its not everyone's preference to have one nearby. At West Springs Landing there'll be plenty of hungry school kids from 2 close by Junior Highs as built in customers. :)

The McDonald's in U/D seems to do well. Mostly a lot of small quick orders, but it seems to work for their type of operation there, and also for the clientele in the area.
