    Calgary Transit

I was gonna say the same thing, but you beat me to it. As far as the first two lines go, Calgary hasn’t dropped the ball at all. The system is a major achievement for a city this size. The stuff Edmonton’s doing today was done here a long time ago. There’s no need for Calgary to build further...

That way it’ll be used more than 10 times a year.

What a great urban canyon along University Ave. I never expected University District to be this cool.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I think Nenshi would increase the NDPs chances. He wouldn’t cause them to lose any of the seats they won in the last election, but would give them a chance to win some Calgary seats that were close last election.

There is no buffer between the DIC and East Village. Even though there are buildings in between, they don’t act as a buffer. Also, this last tower that’s finishing construction is phase 2 of a project that started 7 years ago when East Village looked more promising. There hasn’t been any other...

It comes down to raw pricing, even though the price per square foot is quite high at UD, you can still pick up smaller units in the 300s or 400s whereas it’s very difficult to find that in Parkdale, at least in a new build.

A benefit of not having underground parking. That’s why the city needs to get off their archaic butt and either a) get rid of parking requirements or b) lower the parking minimums.

‘Sometimes we need to pick our battles’ sums up quite well. Parcels that are more desirable, such as ninth Avenue in Inglewood, 10th St., in Kensington, etc. need more scrutiny but some sites don’t.

    Form vs Function?

For sure the goal should always be both nice form and proper function but if I have to pick a choice between the two I would go with function over form. I’m less concerned with the beauty of buildings over the streetscape and the function of a building. As long as the street scape is nice and...

    Statscan numbers

Is the 70K an accurate number for Calgary? There seems to be all kinds of numbers floating out there, and the 70 K is only from the conference part of Canada report, which nobody seems to have access to. I’m still gonna wait for stats can estimate numbers to come out, and I think they’ll even be...

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

The reason prices are so high at these restaurants is that people will pay the prices.

Agree. Ask me 15 years ago about height mattering and I would have been all over it, but these I couldn’t care less. In Edmonton’s case it doesn’t even make sense given the number of empty lots. They should be doing buildings 5-10 stories high.

    Canada Immigration discussion

I’ve always been pro immigration, especially since my parents immigrated to Canada. I have two concerns for the most part. My biggest concern is the current level of immigration is too high, but I’m assuming they’ll go back to previous levels. The other concern, and one that I’m not sure can be...
