Everytime I see this one, I feel bad for those houses whose back decks now face a blank wall, and who will maybe get an hour of sunlight per day. I'm in favour of this kind of densification overall so I'm not complaining, but oof this must suck.

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

Yep, 2007 Google Streetview confirms both of those (and that my memory of The Keg being a red brick building was correct too) Thanks for the quick replies, guys!

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

I looked around and couldn't find a specific thread for "old Calgary" questions so this is probably the best bet. Where was The Keg located downtown about 20-25 years ago? I went a few times but can't remember exactly where it was. And while I'm here asking... in what building was the Moxie's...

    General Construction Updates

It's immediately seeing the sheer volume of pickup trucks on Airport Trail/Deerfoot that does it for me.

Dave's Hot Chicken I believe. Not familiar with it, it's an American franchise.

Someone in the thread mentioned that this looked like a very 80s building, and it really does in this shot. Totally looks like this could've been the aftermath of Arnie blowing up up the Cyberdyne building in T2 (I looked it up, it looks nothing like this, but it FEELS like it could've been)

I wasn't fully sold on this initially, loved the look of it but felt it maybe didn't fit in the location, but wow this looks great. Very tasteful looking.

    Chinook Centre Developments

I used to work in the area so would often walk around here on my lunch break. I remember looking it up and being surprised to find these bungalows and the ones mentioned earlier (along with quite a few others dotted around in this area) date from around the 1910s/20s. Plenty of empty space in...

    Heritage Plaza | 91m | 26s | Arcadis

Isn't it TOD distance? By my calculation, it's about a 450m walk to Heritage.

    Mintoft Place | 14m | 4s | Cedarglen | NORR

As you mentioned, the crossing doesn't appear to have been intended for pedestrians. If you travel backwards down the ramp, there is a bicycle crossing sign. If you go back in time on the street view, it looks like it was installed in 2014-15 to cater to the cyclists who were cutting across that...

    Mintoft Place | 14m | 4s | Cedarglen | NORR

It's actually pretty much a straight line from the bridge to the back of the stores as there are pedestrian accesses between the houses.

    Calgary's Heritage Resources

Thanks, that spurred me to do some searching. While I couldn't find the discussion on here, I did find this city paper which goes in depth on what was known as Hull's Terrace -...

    Calgary's Heritage Resources

Working downtown occasionally and overlooking Chinatown, I've always noticed a little anomaly I wonder if someone could shed some light on. At 306 and 310 Centre St, there are a couple of half houses - https://www.google.ca/maps/@51.0498848,-114.0624303,86m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu They can be...

    The Nines | 22m | 6s | Opus Corporation | Gravity Architecture

The businesses that were there shut up shop 2-3 weeks ago, and the area is fenced off now so presumably some movement coming.

FWIW, this random directory site lists the president as Russ Butler, one of the founders of Wholesale Sports. In fact, the address listed on that page was the site of their Calgary store.
