I absolutely love seeing and reading about these high-rise proposals from different eras. It's also amazing how many projects, even today, never get made publicly from the archives of architecture firms too - there's been some really cool stuff proposed in Calgary and across Alberta and Canada...

Right now, this is by far my favourite project in Calgary. Elegance in simplicity.

I absolutely love the gigantic influx of hotel space, and in an area that makes sense - for convention centre, arena, Stampede and 17th Avenue. This city badly needs more hotels/hotel rooms and hospitality space/amenities, and we need them tomorrow. This is a game-changing/standard-setting...

In addition to a hotel, 17th is also directly missing a 1000-2500 person music and performance venue IMO. Something like the History venue in Toronto would be a nice size for 17th (venue images here and here). Being able to go to a show on 17th after having dinner, and then walking to your hotel...

I've posted this in this thread several times, but I absolutely love this project. This is such a nice, simple design, classy and elegant, and perfect for its site context. Very European in nature. More of these types of projects in Calgary please.

As someone who has been to Tokyo a ton, me likey this project. A lot. I hope this actually gets built, I love this type of design/scale.

Often (well, many) times clients don't want to allocate any funding to the architect's design team or an external renderer for anything more than these done quickly in-house. It sucks, but not everyone places a premium or priority on getting fantastic external renderings done (as much as we want...
