Beijing isn’t likely until WS can use Russian airspace. Right now it requires detouring around Korea adding like 2-3 hours to the journey.
Shanghai is far more likely - and WestJet even has a partner who has a massive hub there.
Sure but it won’t benefit YYC. Any increase would just mean more frequencies into YVR.
China Eastern / Southern don’t even serve Vancouver daily yet. It’s still well below the pre-Covid allowed frequencies.
There is space on the Canadian side today, but WS won’t have new 787s to fly it until...
Until there is also an increase in the bilateral there won’t be any new flights to China.
But this could benefit the Seoul flights - as mainland China is where most of the onward connections end up going.
TIJ has not been announced by WestJet. It seems only a letter of intent was signed. It would probably be a winter add if it happens
They consolidated some of those YEG/YVR cuts with additional frequencies here including up to 11x weekly to BOS and up to 3x daily to ATL. MSP also goes daily on...
Another new route to close out January:
American Airlines is adding 3x weekly JFK starting in August. Flies on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, complimenting their existing Saturday service to LGA.
This brings us to 4 routes to New York. I wonder if WS will re-attempt LGA again.

In the YYC article it says we fell just short of 20 million for 2025. But it’s probably in reach this year.
I think EK will probably announce YVR still.
Currently EY only has an interline agreement with WS so I suspect that will be moved to a full codeshare.
I also wonder if the province played a part. They’ve been lobbying for a direct flight to the UAE for a while. Perhaps EY was the one willing...
All the rumblings were Emirates adding YVR (which may still happen) but it’s crazy to see YYC get the UAE link first.
Always exciting to get a new tail.

Would this be YYC’s first ever South American route?
They’ve held press events to announce the likes of Mexico City and Panama City which aren’t intercontinental.
Also given it’s the 100th non-stop they probably would have had a media event regardless.
Emirates is more likely to start YVR before YYC. Saudia didn't even increase YYZ to daily. As for China, any bilateral increase would just mean more flights for YVR.
However, we just might get some good news soon anyways ;)
It's in the Caribbean, and I believe they've served it before. Perhaps it wasn't announced as its going to end up being a Sunwing destination instead.
It was supposed to be part of the previous announcement, but got delayed so perhaps still ironing out the details.
