General Construction Updates

What's the story behind the school conversion?
It's the STEM Innovation Academy charter school. Being close to the University and in the research park helps with the schools branding/marketing. Not meant as a criticism of the school or charters in general, but it's more important for charters because they don't have a natural catchment like CBE/CSSD.

Noticed they were doing what appeared to be soil sampling on this empty lot on 14 st today

Its been for sale for a while and I've always thought it would be a good location for a smaller *tokyo vibes* mixed use development

Have any designs ever been made public? It's a bit odd that for some things the city does we get endless engagement and then for other things, like the 6th St underpass, construction goes ahead with zero engagement whatsoever.
I had the same thought, and haven’t found anything online. Nevermind engagement, not even a rendering. The CMLC website just shows an image of the 4 Street SE underpass.

Seriously? That’s the light standards they are going with for a “historic” district? Utter garbage. Does anyone ever think before they make decisions? I’m just curious who thought to themselves, “hmm…I think a very basic, minimalist, sleek, lamp post will go perfect in a historical district made of sandstone and brick.”
