No details on slots right? I was hoping the swaps are for earlier production slots that became available, with another airline cancelling/moving back, like Westjet did with their original 787 order and those two went to Royal Air Moroc.

The earliest number I've heard floating around for deliveries is 2030, haven't seen any official confirmation on that. It's possible some earlier slots could arise but I wouldn't hold my breath for it, WS is just one of many airlines with a B789 order.

Hindsight 20/20, but WJ's 2 cancelled 787s would of been helpful in establishing additional links to Asia/Europe sooner rather than later... especially with how much YYC has been growing in PAX and destinations as of late.

I would like to imagine 1 of those frames could of opened up a direct PVG and maybe somewhere in Europe?

To be fair they cancelled the aircrafts coming out of COVID, where they probably lost quite a bit of a money, and wasn't prepared to invest in growing their route network overseas. But yes with hindsight they probably would've kept it, or simply swapped for a later slot than outright cancellation.

Yeah, i really want to know when we might start to recive the next 787.

Tbh, there’s no point of swapping it now if they don’t receive the 789 within next two years.
That makes no sense. They have over 100 on order/options of 737MAX’s. I’m sure converting a few of those to 789’s isn’t going to change their business model one bit. I’m sure thy have some clout with Boeing that thy can get open slots earlier if they pop up before 2031.

I just booked a $46 flight between Medicine Hat and Calgary, and now I hear they're cancelling flights to the Hat and Lethbridge a few weeks after my spontaneous trip. Ultimately: Westjet has terrible timing of their flights to these cities...if your destination is Lethbridge or the Hat, your flight leaves Calgary at 3pm and 2pm respectively...too early for most connections that aren't major Canadian cities with multiple daily frequencies. An alternative that would be really nice is if Westjet teamed up with Flixbus to provide a one ticket booking with a bus transfer in Calgary to cities like Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat. Retains the benefits of connectivity into the network without the cost drawback. Would pair really well with the rail line to Banff and high speed rail to Edmonton when they both eventually come on line.

Westjet schedule changes for this summer.
My count YYC gains over 100 weekly flights
