Stampede Station | 277.3m | 70s | Truman | NORR

NORR was kind-of forced to up their game here. These will be super noticeable from everywhere in the city and host two luxury brands, they wouldn't want to embarrass themselves giving a cheap looking design. It's also clearly obvious Cidex doesn't care to pay much for external design, and is quite happy using their cookie cutter HAT design.

NORR is a pretty big firm, so a wide range of quality can come out of it. NORR was involved in the Burj Khalifa as well, so they do have experience in tall statement towers

They also have to work with the budget of the developer. That's why we get amazing renderings for architecture competitions, but when it actually needs to get built, the bespoke floating ceiling feature has to be removed because it's extremely expensive or hard to clean. Cidex is obviously operating at a different budget than the Stampede project, which is good. We can have some statement towers, but the rest can just add a bunch of housing at the most reasonable cost.

NORR had a middle east office, but that has been spun off into a separate company. Not sure if they even use the NORR brand anymore...

Walked by the parking lot today. Hard to believe the tallest tower in Western Canada will sit here.

Ol' Whippersnapper on SSP sure doesn't like them. Pretty salty about the design overall, and seems to think having landscaped areas in front of the worst stroad in Calgary would be better than the enclosed podium spaces.
