Last month, we revisited the evolution of 11th Avenue SW just west of 1st Street, where the aptly named 11th Avenue Place boosted Beltline office space. While the 2015-completed building left an indelible mark on the streetscape, ridding an unsightly surface parking lot from the neighbourhood, a trailblazing corporate campus just across the street would have comparable revitalizing effects a decade prior.

IBM Corporate Park was born in 2002 with the completion of a five-storey office building at 227 11th Avenue SW. It wasn't until 2006 that a second building, bearing a virtually identical design with one additional floor, was constructed. By 2008, the entire three-building project was completed, with curved glazed walls and precast exterior panels facilitating the design by Gibbs Gage Architects.

The mid-rise buildings are collectively known as IBM Corporate Park - Buildings A, B & C. The six-storey B and C buildings were arranged in a 'U' shape that presented an opportunity for a shaded courtyard space. Carson + McCulloch Associates designed the space with a 'mountain meets meadow' theme, with rundlestone constructions reflecting geological uplift, and undulating planters evoking the meadow.
