The East Village skyline will dramatically change when two residential towers soar at 428 6th Avenue. But before they can take off, a retail podium is being constructed at the corner of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street SE, promising 180,000 square feet of retail space below the 600,000-square-foot residential complex.

RioCan's 5th and Third development will contain a 82,000-square-foot City Market by Loblaws and an additional 70,000 square feet of retail space at grade, including a Shoppers Drug Mart. The most recent album of images posted to our Forum show wall columns and rebar poking out of the site above grade. Completion for the Gibbs Gage-designed retail component is anticipated in 2019, with the two residential towers to be developed by Embassy BOSA shortly afterwards.

Set to form the highest peaks in East Village, the 41- and 24-storey Arris will envelop nearly 500 residential units in a glass facade imagined by Hossein Amanat. The light gray-blue glass overruns the structural skeleton in several places, creating fins that serve to lighten the form of the towers. Corner balconies expand in size as the tower approaches its pinnacle, a design motif accentuated by a diagonal slice in the facade.

An amenity space on the podium roof is wrapped in glazing, while a covered walkway that connects the towers will also allow residents to access these spaces during all seasons. A central area that provides connections to the pool, fitness and lounge areas is envisioned as a winter garden that hosts an abundance of greenery.

We'll continue to update the project's construction status and the eventual launch of sales at Arris. Additional images and information can be found in the Database file linked below.
