The concrete core and first two levels of the ALT Hotel in East Village have taken shape ahead of the expected assembly of steel floor plates, which will require the erection of a new crane. The podium levels of what will ultimately be an 11-storey building demonstrate the girth of the footprint that occupies the northwest corner of Confluence Way and 6th Avenue SE.

Groundbreaking for the $40 million hospitality development, led by partners Group German Hotels and Homes by Avi Group of Companies, occurred in November 2016. The building follows up on the success of Le Germain Hotel Calgary at the corner of Centre Street and 9th Avenue SW, the chain's inaugural hospitality project in the city. The Alt Hotel brand, Le Germain's more affordable 'no-frills chic' concept, has built a strong presence across Canada, with locations in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, St. John's and Halifax

The 155-room hotel also builds upon the fledgling success of East Village and the recently complete EV Hilton Hotel, which rises to a comparable 14-storey apex. Designed by LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design, the building envelope consists of loft-style windows meant to maximize the entrance of natural light. The building will also house 5,000 square feet of meeting space.

Homes by Avi have already assembled the three levels of underground parking. The parkade will offer accommodation for hotel guests and spaces for visitors and residents in the area, helping to address the neighbourhood's transitional parking needs as surface lots are gobbled up by development.
