Stantec, in collaboration with DIALOG, are the architectural heavyweights behind the future Calgary Cancer Centre, which was unveiled last week by the province. The $1.4-billion project is slated to replace a surface parking lot at the northeast corner of the Foothills Medical Centre with a state-of-the-art facility encompassing more than one million square feet of space.

The new complex will increase southern Alberta's cancer care capacity by concentrating and expanding the services that already exist in the city, closing the gap between limited supply and the growing demand for more dedicated space. The interior will be filled with more than 100 patient exam rooms, 160 inpatient unit beds, over 100 chemotherapy chairs, 12 radiation vaults, outpatient cancer clinics, and a number of laboratories.

A 1,650-stall underground parking garage and an elevated walkway will enhance the connectivity of Alberta's largest hospital complex. A virtual tour, embedded below, takes viewers through the contemporary building, which wraps around a large central courtyard. The glass walls of the structure will permit expansive views of the Rocky Mountains and Calgary skyline.

PCL Construction will build the facility, which is scheduled to enter service in 2023. Additional images and information can be found in the Database file linked below.
