It's been a while since we last checked in on Calgary's New Central Library. The stunning Snøhetta-designed East Village project has been under construction since July 2015 when construction crews began work on a section designed to cover the LRT tracks. The general structure of the building is now mostly completed and a fair bit of the multi-coloured cladding has been installed.
The pointed corner section on the north side of the library still needs to be constructed as seen in the image below, but for the most part the building's shape has taken form.
A view from above shows a substantial amount of cladding on the west side, and that the general massing is mostly complete.
The multi-coloured spandrel and glass cladding has been up for a while now, but new material has recently been installed at the library. Regular glass windows and stone finish cladding are being installed on the east side of the building. The glass is mostly transparent with a slight tint, while the stone finish is gray with a hint of brown.
An even closer look at the stone finish material reveals a mix of mason and wood grain styles.
We will continue to follow the construction progress of this site, and post updates as they happen. To keep up to date or join in on discussion of the New Central Library, check out our related Forum thread.
