Our year-end poll revealed your favourite project completions of this past year and the under-construction developments you're looking forward to seeing come online. Many of those will be delivered in 2017, building on the groundwork laid by 2016, which saw the opening of remarkable projects like Studio Bell, Kahanoff Two, and the Eau Claire Tower. Some of Calgary's biggest developments will welcome tenants this year, giving SkyriseCalgary lots to write about. As we amass our own personal new year's resolutions, here's a brief rundown of what development milestones Calgary can expect in 2017.

Several inner-city neighbourhoods are undergoing dramatic transformations, especially the East Village. Construction on the retail portion of 428 Sixth Avenue is advancing — so far represented by a large hole in the ground — with speculation that work on the two surmounting residential towers could in fact directly follow the commercial podium. Progress on The Royal in the Beltline is further ahead, with portions of the site flush with the street. The 34-storey condominium should be ready for residents in 2018.

Another budding East Village neighbour — the Snøhetta-designed New Central Libary — will continue to turn heads in the new year. It too is expected to be complete in 2018. Meanwhile, a number of highrises are just beginning to rise within various neighbourhoods across the city. The multi-tower Parkside development by Anthem PropertiesQualex-Landmark's Park Point, and Residence Inn by Marriott have just sprouted above-grade.

Bjarke Ingels Group's Telus Sky will continue its climb. The flat exterior surface will soon make a dramatic adjustment about one third of the way up the tower to coincide with its programmatic shift from office to residential, where it then transforms into a striking motif of projecting boxes. Meanwhile, 6th and Tenth, which has topped out, is approaching exterior completion.

A number of buildings will be completed in the first few months of 2017. Vogue Condominiums and Versus will bring another onslaught of residential units to the core, while 707 Fifth Street and Brookfield Place, the tallest building in Calgary, mark their delivery. Each of these four projects boasts a unique architectural expression that contributes to the skyline's stylistic variety.
