In the two months since our last update, progress has continued to move along at the site of Brookfield Place, the Arney Fender Katsalidis- and Dialog Architects-designed tallest Canadian tower west of Toronto. Recent photos from our Forum highlight the progress made to date, along with providing a good view of how Calgary's tallest tower is fitting into its surroundings.

The 247-metre 56-storey tower, glazed in a special low-iron clear glass curtain wall, commands attention, its height and smooth exterior making it stand out among the forest of steel  and glass condos and office towers that have come to define downtown Calgary over the last decade.

Designed with a gradually increasing curvature, the tower's signature smooth look works to give Brookfield Place a standout design, its seemingly simple look more complicated than what first meets the eye. Seen below, the all-but-complete exterior glazing catches the light well, reflecting its surroundings.

Moving around to the other side of the structure, the full effect of the curved corners can be appreciated.

Down at street level, things are looking a little less finished up close, with much work yet to be done inside and outside what will soon become the 50,000-square-foot glass pavilion and retail podium.

Once complete, Brookfield Place will enjoy the spotlight as Western Canada's tallest tower but only briefly. The Stantec Tower currently under construction in downtown Edmonton will measure in at 251 metres, surpassing Brookfield Place by a mere four metres.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure return to this project as progress continues. For more information, be sure to check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
