Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but does anyone know what the plan is with 128 7 Ave SE? I've seen a bit of activity (inside the building) over the past few months, but I can't find any info online (not on DMAP).

I did a google lens search of the mural and found this

Kinda sounds like a weird cult...

"Carrie Radomski has been a radical life-extension advocate and cryonicist for over 10 years. As the president of The Lifespan Society of BC, she has fought legally for the rights of cryonicists living in BC, Canada"

"Within The Futurist Club, Carrie is building a rapid cryonics Standby, Stabilization and Transport (SST) organization."

Not the kind of club I was picturing ...

Looks like the blanket rezoning repeal notice of motion is now official. Seven members of Council are signed on to it, including the mayor. I think going back to the old way instead of tweaking things to address the major concerns is a terrible failure of leadership from all involved, but especially Farkas. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Don't they need 8 votes for the repeal to pass? Looks like the missing 8th is John Pantazopoulos, who ran on a campaign to repeal blanket rezoning. Wondering why he wasn't a sponsor on this?

Well if re-zoning failed to fix everything in 10 months then its obviously a failure and needs to go.

Time to out YIMBY the NIMBYs.

Funny how they didn't ascribe support/opposition to the 6100 written submissions.
It's probably would strengthen the appeal. It's a small percentage of the city that participate but people that spoke at council and wrote in are overwhelmingly against rezoning.
And curious how the Feds respond, or are we done with the Housing Accelerator Fund and now its all Build Canada Homes? I don't think the city would go ahead with repeal if it means losing all the HAF funding which is allocated already.

I recall hearing that they need a 2/3 majority in order to repeal a bylaw, so they might not have the votes and may have to amend rather than repeal.

That's probably why they are doing this. The appeal people get to tell voters we tried, the city gets to keep HAF, and the desired outcome was always amend.

Depends on what's counted...there was definitely a big push to email your councillor in the lead up to the vote, and I don't think those would be counted in the 6100. I bet there were a lot of people like me who sent a supportive email to their councillor but did not make a formal submission; I'm sure that's true on the other side too, but I bet a lot of those emails were from the same people that did send submissions.

It's natural that big changes get loud opposition and quiet support. I bet the push to repeal will be a lot more even this time around though.

It is funny that they rounded 62% up to "nearly 70%" in the motion

Last week, administration provided a recap to council following the 12 days of hearings that saw 736 speakers present to city council. Out of those speakers, there were 458 who were opposed (62.2 per cent), and 227 supported the idea (30.8 per cent).

Apply those same ratios to the 6100 and you get 3782 opposed vs 1879 supportive. Which sounds an awful lot less impressive.
